I recently bought a current gen 21.5" iMac and have been thinking about using it as a replacement for my television. I would like to know what I need to connect my Dish Network satellite receiver to the iMac. I know about the EyeTV adapter, and was wondering if there were any alternatives to that or if the EyeTV is my best bet?

EyeTV is the best (maybe only one too) TV software/hardware for Mac.

What are the "others"? I'd like to look at some alternatives before buying.

Theres Miglia too. Although EyeTV is definitely the best out there. None of the others come close.

Has anyone ever tried out the Equinux TV Receiver Tubestick? I found it on Apple's site and was wondering how it compares to the EyeTV.

It seems lots of people have not been happy with el gato hybrid when using a digital cable signal to their iMac.
Can someone here tell me how it has been for them using an el gato product on the newer iMac's (21.5") using 10.6 of course.
I am wanting to set this up for my Mom, so let me know please.

EyeTV works, but has no HiDef capability. I use a slingbox connected to my directv receiver and send the picture to my iMac over my network. Works great and I can display HiDef channels.
