Because the owner bought an SL Upgrade DVD for 25€?
You can do the same...
PS: You can't update from 10.5.8 to 10.6.2 without buying the SL Upgrade DVD, a simple download will not work.
Mac OS X numbers its family as 10, big releases as 1-6 (currently) and the smaller updates (service packs if you want) from 0 to 11.
So Mac OS X 10.5.8 belongs to family 10, release 5, update 8.
Mac OS X 10.6.2 belongs to family 10, release 6, update 2.
Updating from release to release can only be done via paying for an Upgrade or Retail version of the new release.
