Hi all, I was wondering if there was any way to take the movies off of a MiniDv tape onto a mac in a worse resolution/smaller file size. I can't find out how to do it in iMovie, it only rencodes in the highest setting, and then you have to convert that to a lower setting, taking up a lot more time (and disk space until it's done converting)
Thanks

Unfortunately no, you'll have to import at full quality and convert it to lower quality. There may be a different application that will do that, but I don't know.

It looks like BTV Pro (http://www.bensoftware.com/btvpro.html) will let you capture DV and save it at a lower rate or different codec.
Do you want to capture the movie & edit it at a lower rate? or just convert DV into small movies.?

I just want to capture the movie at a lower rate when I transfer it, instead of having to import it at full quality (taking up tons of space) and then converting it to a lower quality
