i am currently experiancing a rather annoying problem and was wondering if any one has had a similar experiance and knows of a possible cheap fix for it. Here goes. I have 667 powerbook VGA(the first model to have the combo drive) Right now i am having a problem with the bottom third of my screen coming in and out it flickers. If i hit or put pressure the hinge or area around the left side speaker it comes back in. I figure it's a muffed up connector or possibly some wires have lost ther insulation and crossing as the bottom third sometimes shows the same information as the top third. Given my power book is almost 4 years old. I was hoping some might now a relatively easy fix for this rather then replacing the whole panel which is rather costly.

he he. maybe you should have chosen a better username, then your PB wouldn't have pooped itself. :p

j/k

if it's wires or anything like that, i don't think there's an easy fix, unless you can get a spare part, like a new wire or connector and get someone to put it in. or you could even try that yourself if you're confident, seeing as it's out of warranty.

There's no real way of knowing what the problem is until you try disassembling the PB. Since putting pressure on the hinge seems to have an effect it sounds like the display cable is probably fraying.

It would cost a fair amount to have it diagnosed at an Apple service centre and a small fortune to get it repaired there too. If you feel like opening it up yourself and having a look you could try downloading the appropriate Apple manual here. (http://home.earthlink.net/~strahm_s/manuals.html) Then try finding a replacement part from somewhere like PBParts (http://www.pbparts.com/), or an Apple service centre may be willing to order it for you, if it is the display cable it'll probably set you back about $130.
