If you think your refurb imac 27 i5/i7 is working perfect out of the box withno problems or screen issues... please use it for couple of days before posting here ... many people are reporting problems with refurbs after using it for few days

lets see how many of us got a perfect refurb imac 27 i5/i7

MY iMac has two gray bands that run across the screen,. They aren't noticeable when I have them on but if you scroll in the screen at all, you can see them pretty clearly. I'm pretty upset. It's a refurb i7, 27 inch. Obviously someone saw this and probably returned it. They probably didn't do anything to fix it. I just bought this thing a week ago. So goes the refurb fixes screen issue...... Mac where have you gone with your quality stuff, I was so loyal of a customer.

Just received a refurbished 21.5" C2D iMac.... and its already going back :(

Everything was perfect, but there was a smudged/oily/dark patch on the screen - unfortunately not on the glass as I could have cleaned that.

Getting a refund and having it picked up (yey get to carry it all the way back to work again!), and then have to try my luck again on the refurb store - they wouldn't replace it, I have to keep checking now for another to come in stock.

My refurb i7 (ordered last thursday) arrived today. Screen looks acceptable to me. I think the bottom looks a bit yellow from certain angles but it is not really distracting. There is a small piece of dust caught between the backlight and lcd in the lower left corner....it's not a dead pixel just looks like a tiny speck of dust and is nto distracting once i enlarge the dock to cover it up. I've seen something similar on one of my other lcds and it's ok with me.

I am having another issue that may warrant a return...no airport detection. I am not seeing an airport device in system profile (i have a 24" imac to compare the screens). Did a re-install of the OS but still nada. Perhaps a PRAM reset.

On the bright side I did get a 2 TB drive. 4 GB of ram :(.

Case looks new too.

EDIT---the airport issue might be a 10.6.2 problem. I'll call Apple and inquire about it, but I will probably wait for a fix rather than do an exchange.

Simple white shipping box, very heavy, and surprisingly little packing material inside.

mine's slightly warm at the bottom. That said I have a question for the yellow test, i don't have a desk, my computer is on like a dresser thing, meaning that its is lower than eye level (when sitting down my eye level is just 2 inches below the isight), or lower than it would be on a desk, i'm thinking of taking it in to the apple store to get the screen replaced but I want to make sure this isn't 'in my head'. If I tilt it at a sharp angle it looks normal, and if i duck my head down (when my eye is two inches above the apple logo) , making my eye level more even with the bottom it looks fine. but at eye level there is a difference.

I just ordered my refurb i5 iMac. I currently have a brand new 27" base iMac, which I have exchanged once already. I am going to compare them. I hope the refurbs are in good shape... because an i5 with a better graphics card for the same price of a brand new base 27" iMac is a steal in my eyes.

If all is good on the refurb I am going to get a refund for my base iMac.

if you view any of the new iMacs (especially the 27") you will see a yellow no matter what. I have compared quite a few of these things lately, and I have noticed that if you are looking down on the screen (ie if you are at a store you tend to be higher than the display), you will always see a slight yellowing on the bottom.

Try looking at it from a proper level, pop come books under the stand or try to kneel down a bit and see if its still there.

Be careful! Don't drop your baby!

Yup - here's the best photo I could get of the smudge - looks worse than in the photo though

Managed to spot another 21.5" iMac refurb on the store, and it should arrive tomorrow. Sucks that I wont have the refund on the current one for a couple of weeks though! My poor bank balance!

Nah I doubt it, - the glass was perfect, and no marks or anything on the case or box. there is a big gap between the box and the screen - so something would have to physically penetrate the cardboard and hit the screen and somehow not break or smudge the glass!

I think it was the reason it was originally sent to refurb. You only really see the smudge on a plain background - so my theory is that the guy doing the refurb looked away or got a coffee while the machine started - as when you are on the default space photo you cant see it.

I returned my iMac after the audio jack was defective and determined it was a logic board problem. This is the second refurbished Mac I've returned in three years. I'm planning on buying new from now on. Just not worth it.
Plus looking at the poll (I know it's early), but there are already 10 votes for problems and only 2 that are 100% satisfied. That's not good, but we'll see what it looks like after a week or so.
I did buy a refurbished Mac Pro three years ago and it's worked great. Not a single issue, but for me two our three ain't good.

Got my 27" i5 iMac last Thursday, found a yellow tinge across the bottom of the screen so I sent it back to Apple yesterday, now waiting for another one to ship...hope their won't be any issues with this new one, if there are, I'm probably gonna end up bringing it to the Apple store to get the screen replaced. It also came with a dent on the pedestal.

Yes. But I think whoever fixed it did not spot the issue. They probably had a report that the screen had a fault - so they turned it on, maybe looked away, and when they saw the display picture they would not have been able to see the issue.

Thats the only way I can explain it - had the desktop background been a plain colour they would have spotted it instantly.

New (refurb) is being delivered today, so fingers crossed that its perfect! If not i'll keep it and just take it to an apple store to be fixed. Cant afford to send it back and buy another and wait for refunds etc!

Setting up the replacement now (well I say replacement, I actually bought a second one, and have to wait for a refund on the returned on).

So I was very worried when I saw the box arrive - it was a bit of a mess, the handle was ripped out and parts of the box had been crumpled a bit. Luckily the machine was perfect - plenty of polystyrene to protect it from the couriers!

So far it seems perfect, and as far as I can tell the screen is fine - colour seems even all the way across. cant see any obvious yellowing at any part.

Love this machine - such power for (in apple terms) a low price! Got all 8GB of RAM in now and its flying along :D

Got a refurb i5, week 11, slight yellow tinge on the bottom, more on the right side than the left. At first it was so slight that I didn't notice it until I specifically tested for it, but after a couple of days of use it seems to have gotten worse, or I have just gotten more sensitive to it. Either way, will exchange.

Mine arrived today. I was greeted with an absolutely horrid yellow issue right off the get go.

I didn't go out of my way to find it, it was there on the first screen with the apple logo. It makes a peak from the middle of the screen all the way to the top and then gradually slopes down to the bottom 1/5 of the screen on the right side. My brother who came in my room, before I even said anything says "why does it look like someone spilled soda pop on your screen?"

I will be returning this and demanding an advance replacement, I have been through three iMacs now, I am not going to waste more time without my computer.

You guys are all a lot more patient than I am.

I order / received a refurbished i7 -- turned it on and the processor fan sounded like it was trying to achieve lift from the table. 3900+ rpm at bootup.

I put it back in the box. Took it to FedEx tonight.

Now waiting on a replacement refurbished i7 to ship.

If my replacement refurbished i7 is not perfect, I'm sending it back and asking for my money back. I'm not going to play this check-it-out and return it game any longer.

I really wanted an iMac for the large screen - but it appear pretty obvious that there are serious manufacturing defects in these machines at this time. If my 2nd unit doesn't cut it - I'll just wait it out until a revision comes along.

Either that or just go the MacBook Pro route.

Unfortunately the top of the line MacBook Pro still doesn't have the i7's specs. I was wanting to get away from having a second screen. Simplify.

Again, hopefully the replacement iMac will be all I am hoping it to be, and more.

going to macbook pro you would lose the 27 inch screen size ...

Obviously.

I would also lose the hard drive capacity, the RAM capacity, the processor speed, and the video card.

Oh, and the top of the line MacBook Pro costs more than the iMac, too.

As I said -- I would REALLY like to get a good quality iMac!

My refurb i7 has slight yellow tinge but everything else is perfect.

I've had a monitor for 2 years that displayed evident backlight bleeding. That is 10 times worse than the IMac yellow tinge problem, and people don't constantly return those!

just cause we read so much about it ... we might just have it in our mind some times ..cant that be the case?

Honestly I think there might be something to the thought that some of this is in our heads. Obviously the issue exists (and quite badly for some people apparently), but in my case I highly doubt I would ever have noticed the tint if I hadn't been looking for it. When asking other people to inspect the screen (with a gray or white background) and not telling them about the yellow, none of them were able to identify a flaw. It's still there, but it takes searching for. I decided not to exchange after; I'm going to wait at least until they've solved the problem, rather than gamble on a new screen.

i kind of agree, intially i was going to return mine but i didn't, because the screen is so large and you see it so close up depending on the angle it will invariably show up, but if you look at ti from the right angle it won't

iMac 27" i7 (#2) is waiting for me at home. This is to replace my first refurb imac which was missing an airport card.

UPDATE: iMac#2 looks good. Airport is working on this one. Screen looks good too. Another 2 TB drive in this refurb unit. Hopefully, nothing else goes wrong and this one is a keeper.

After 3 different iMac 27" i7's (all refurb) were sent my way, all 3 were sent back. The most recent (delivered on wednesday), was the worst of them all - with yellow splotches visible on any background color. Opted for a refund - and was offered a $250 credit towards teh purchase of a computer with no time-limit.
