New Here, questions about upgrading RAM on my new MacBook

Hello Everyone,

I just took the plunge and bought my first ever MacBook yesterday. (used from a friend)

I was curious if there were a simple way to find out if I can upgrade my RAM or if it is already maxed out. Additionally is it fairly easy to pop some more ram into a macbook by yourself? At the moment it appears to have 2GB installed.

It's very easy, and you can have a max of 4GB in the most recent MBs. But yes, it depends on the model.

how old is the machine? latest specs are DDR3 and the machines capable of using 8Gb? i think, open system profiler, the ram should be listed as either DDR2 or DDR3

i recently upgraded my ram to 4gb and my hard drive to a 7200 rpm 500gb.

but the ram is very simple. you can literally pop off your bottom plate, pull out the ram, and put the new ram in. you boot up and its ready to go. it takes 5 mins.

i went with this crucial ram

and you lucked out, just about 3 weeks ago i payed $100 for this ram haha

Fool proof way is to download and run the Crucial (hhttp://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/MacOS.aspx/) RAM scanner. It tells you the RAM currently installed and how much more you can put in.

right on, thanks guys. i checked out crucial, looks like I can hold two separate 2GB sticks of ddr2, guess i'll have to shop around a bit.
