I've got mine reserved, but I'll be there bright and early for the festivities.

Also, remember, the only doors that will be open are the handicap doors, so try those before giving up.

Is there any posting or anything from Briarwood mall relating to the event? Are they going to let people in early? I'm eager to stand in line myself but don't want to get there too late!

This is the best information as of right now.

The first door opening at Briarwood on Saturday morning will be the Briarwood main entrance between Penney's and Macy's. Mall doors will open around 7:45AM and security will walk the folks to The Apple Store. All other entrance doors will be locked until the line is actually formed at the store. Anyone sneaking in through a service door will be escorted out the opposite side of the mall.

There will be two lines at the entrance--one for "pre-orders" and the other for "new orders". Make sure you're in the right line. Look for the sign on the door.

That's the information I got as well. I was also told to probably head out there around 6:30, but seeing as how mine is reserved, I'll see about that.

See you guys there.

Anyone going this year?

I plan to go to Briarwood this Friday
When should we get there to get in line? Will we be able to line up before 10am (the official opening time of the mall)?

Are we better off going to the Target around the corner?

I'm trying to get a sense of what the crowds will be like this year - you can't preorder it, but it is available at many more retails outlets than last year.

Also, even though I've been a big fan of Apple products for many years, this is the first time I've decided to line up for a product launch.

Here is the official Briarwood scoop regarding the iPad Release on 3/11/2011:

Customers wishing to line up in the early morning hours for the iPad 2 release should do so at Door 4 (between J.C. Penney’s & Macy’s). This is where the line will form. The entrance doors will open between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM. Security will escort customers to the Apple Store. Anyone in front of the store prior to this will be asked to leave the mall.

The handicap doors will not be unlocked early. This has been done in the past for those attending training sessions at Apple. If you are attending a training class, you should not get in line for an iPad. The customers for the training class can come in and then the doors will be re-locked.

That's it. Briarwood will allow customers to line up early in an orderly fashion.

So I take it that the mall will be opening early just for iPad 2 customers? Doesn't it usually open at 10am on Fridays?
What kind of training sessions are there at 8 in the morning at Apple?
Where di you get this information?

Jastman-the mall will open the entrance door between Macy's and J.C. Penney's between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM. The mall always is open on Friday at 8:00 AM for walkers and other folks. Anyone can walk in the doors. The mall stores open at 10:00 AM. Apple has early morning special classes for those who sign up for them. I think they're one-on-one classes from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. I'm not sure if they're free or how much they cost. Check the Apple website for information. Where did I get the information? Check the Briarwood FaceBook page. I also know because I'm the Security Director at Briarwood.

I think I answered all of your questions. If you need specific information, I can be reached at briarwood_tafisher@sbcglobal.net. Please do not add me to any mailing lists or anything like that. I'm trying to help out as best as I can.

Great! Thanks very much!
(I promise I won't add you to any sort of mailing list - I'm just a UofM student eager to get my first iPad)

I hope you enjoy it. It's 6:20 AM and no one is waiting at the doors.

It's not really 6:20 AM, it's only 5:55 AM. My mistake.

If anyone is at Briarwood and reading this - can you keep this forum updated as to the status of the line there?

Yeah please post some updates.

I'm not standing in line. I'll be showing up when around 6:00 ish, maybe 6:30.

Hopefully the initial surge of buyers will be gone by then. I just hope there are some black 16GB Wi-Fi's left. :|

But still, I'd like to know what is going on there. If Briarwood is jam packed, then my chances are slim I guess.

Anyone going to any non-Apple stores (Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Verizon, AT&T) to pick up an iPad 2?

The fact that it's being sold at so many different places initially should ease the line at Briarwood (I hope)
