View Full Version : Has Apple helped you get a girl?

Last night I went on a date. It was a double date, and the two girls were both drama chicks (as in musical theater, etc.). Having not really given my girl the attention a drama chick needs, she was half interested, half insulted. The night was going all right, as we all migrated over to a coffee shop and sat outside.

Then I pulled out my iPod.

After having listened to it for a couple songs, it became apparent that the girl didn't really know what it was. I told her and showed her how the interface works (4G click-wheel). She then started listening to it, and after a couple songs she gave me one ear bud while she listened in the other. After and during this, she was very warm and seemingly interested in me.

Needless to say the night ended well.

Has Apple helped anyone else out there with members of the opposite/same sex?

Glad things worked out, but what were thinking listening to an iPod on the date. Should you--oh I don't know--talk to her or something?

It did not help me until now.
But there was this funny thread a couple of weeks back where someone lent his powerbook to a friend who took it to the library and pulled a girl because she liked "his" computer.

So yeah apple helps. Too bad I got a desktop. :(

The mac thing only works in certain areas. For example, in my college, 60% or more of the kids have Mac laptops. Not so impressive in the west village.

I was already married when we found Apple. Our first purchase occurred close to our 11th Wedding Anniversary.

Nice! I suppose just the friendliness, simplicity, and aesthetic beauty of the products are attractive to women. See: Hip.

I'm happy for all of you who were aided by Apple in getting intimate with a member of the opposite sex. As for me, I'm still busy trying to get a member of the same sex. Apple products are quite the conversation pieces, though. However, everywhere I go, it's a tough room.

Where is that guy whose friend got laid 'cause of the borrowed Powerbook?

Exactly!! It crossed my mind too. On the ligher side, think of it. The iPod pulled off what he did not.

An iPod has helped me in one situation, simply because it was late at night, we were tired and I figured some music would help. Needless to say she liked the iPod and my music tastes.

In the other instance, my PowerBook kind of made her appreciate who I was more. She was a PC user and after having used my PowerBook for a month, she seems to be relating to me better. Weird, but true.

Most females ditch me when I am listening to an ipod while on a date ... Even though it is an Apple :) Do you use your ipod a lot when dating?

haha, you don't stuff your ears on a date kid. good to hear it worked out for you.

i remember my being an apple user helped me score my senior prom date. i was far from the only guy courting her, but the fact that we both did debate, travelled in the same group of nerds, and of course, used Apple computers did move things in my favor.

Criticize it all you want, but it DID work. End of story. And I think she decides whether or not I deserve her.

Besides, I had talked to her enough throughout the night. I don't count on Apple to get me girls, but if it happens, I'm certainly not going to bash it.

True, but I am not sitting here saying I saw this smoking hot chick, but to seal the deal I whipped out the iPod just so she knows I'm cool. And then for icing in the cake I invited her over and made an AppleScript that displays the dialog box "Will You Be My Girlfriend?"

As for apple2991, did you get her number or get a kiss or anything. Or did the iPod just help assist making her awful date just a little bit more interesting?

I respected you, and was even going to try to defend you from cerfsud's post.. but then you said that. You get off that train of thought, or you're going to be a disappointed little man in the future.

You got damn lucky in that situation... care to share the circumstances that put your earbuds in your ears on a date? I've played my iPod in the car with girls, but never anything with headphones.

Haha, I love these threads about Macs and dating. They always end up going in some interesting places. I wouldn't specifically date a guy because he was a mac user, but I do get turned off to the whole "what you use a Mac? When are you going to get a real computer?" thing from guys.

The next guy I #$&% is gonna own a Mac, preferably purchased in the last 12 months. If he doesn't show it to me on the first date, he's outta luck.

But to be honest, I have been caught twice by ladies - in the train - asking what that tiny thing is and why it is smaller than their CD players ...

That sentence would be really bad if taken out of context!

I was on a BMI (British Midland) flight between Manchester and Chicago for a holiday, well the holiday was rubbish but I got out my Powerbook on the plane and a hot airhostess came up to me and said, wow is that a apple? she then started to explain that she bought a iBook but didn't know how to use it, so after a few demo's she said she lived just 20 miles from me so we exchanged mobile numbers and we sometimes text, not really pulled her but made my freinds jelious! (he was sat next to me on his Compaq Evo wishing his laptop was as cool) :P

I dont count on my ibook/ipod to help me meet people, but it seems to draw people to me in a public environment. I can often be found surfin' on the public access wi-fi at the college campus near my place. People often ask about my gear and i tell them what i can. As said, its an icebreaker...

Please dont refer to me as pathetic.... :P

I don't know if my Mac or my job has helped me pick up women but, there have been several instances where I have been working with my computer designing on the fly in a club and have had a small audience of bar hostesses or strippers. This has resulted in my getting a number of interesting proposals that lead to wanton and indecent acts of a very enjoyable nature.

Apple hasn't helped me get a girl. It's the other way around -- it was a former girlfriend who got me interested in Apples. Well, that and the release of OS X.

Now, I think all the time I spend playing with my Mac (and reading MacRumors, for that matter) isn't exactly boosting my love life.

Actually quite the opposite. Me and a lady friend was watching a movie in my living room..we then moved to the bedroom...she saw my flat panel iMac, and was amazed, and spent the rest of the night playing on the Mac. DAMN U APPLE!

My PowerBook and iPod have not helped me at all with girls. Most girls don't care about computers, so when they see one, they don't do a double take like I do when I see a nice computer/car/TV/mobile phone/etc/camera/etc.

My iPod has received more looks than my PowerBook, because everybody likes to listen to music. :) Actually, I try to cover my iPod with my hand when I'm using it because I don't want the attention and stares.

why do i feel i am reading the most pathetic thread. i can't say apple has helped me, nor do i count on apple to win me a girl. i can do that on my own. but i will say i have met some good looking women through my job, which has to do with macs.

iJon

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. :p Why don't you guys just offer her a gmail invitation or something! :D

If you need to bring your computer to get the attention of women, you need to bring your 'A' game, or get some game, because you're not doing something right.

....but, there have been several instances where I have been working with my computer designing on the fly in a club and have had a small audience of bar hostesses or strippers. This has resulted in my getting a number of interesting proposals that lead to wanton and indecent acts of a very enjoyable nature.

So......you pulled out a laptop in strip clubs and pick up strippers? :p

And even if you say you don't bring out your laptop/iPod to get attention, it just happens to draw attention and act as an icebreaker, deep down you probably have a conscious idea of what you're doing, and may bring these toys out more often hoping for some attention. Sad.

Um, did you read what he said? The evening resulted in indecent but pleasurable acts. If it works, how is it sad? It's not any worse than going up to a girl, striking up a meaningless conversation, while both of you pretend to listen to what the other person is saying so you can determine if you want to go to bed with them.

Regardless of whether he was subconsciously trying to use the PowerBook to interest girls, IT DID. If the girls weren't interested, they would have simply ignored him. What's wrong with that?

P.S. How is this any different than the thousands upon thousands of guys who meet girls through their cars? It's called an ice-breaker.

Seems to be helping me out. I'm friends with a cute goth chick. She found out that I'm an apple geek, and I've become even more interesting to her. She was especially impressed that I replaced a laptop part by myself a few months back (bottom latch). And I'm thrilled that she and her friends like apple.

Oh, and I'm a chick, too.

Actually, i design menus, ads and all the necessary publicity for the clubs, as well as maintain their websites, computers and assist with the photoshoots and such.

The girls all seem to take an interest in what I do as I have a good business and help them to look good on the websites and in the ads and flyers.

Obviously, the club owners pay me good money and give me other incentives to do my work well. The girls see this and take an interest in me and a few have actually realized that inspite of my geeky exterior and "sad"-your comment not mine lifestyle that i might be a good catch. I also think that an income stream from this work of about US$20,000 a month is another reason they may be interested in the guy with the G4 at the corner table.
