iPod Touch: 1st Generation and 3.0 Software

Hey there forums.
I recently bought a 1st generation 8GB touch. It is currently running software 2.0, but I would like to update it to 3.0 software. How would I go about doing this in iTunes 9.0.2?

When you plug your ipod into the computer, click on your ipod in itunes, and on the summary tab where it says "version", it should say that there is an update available for your ipod, and a button to click to do this.
