is RAID possible on basic mac mini ?

Yes I think this is possible, the ssd and optibays have been done before. Not sure about the raid though. http://www.123macmini.com/forums/ Might be a better bet for your questions though?

yes it's been done before, do yourself a favor and skip the optibay. It serves it's purpose in laptops because you want to immobilize the hard drive as much as possible and there's not a lot of room to work with. In the Mini once the optical drive is removed there is a huge flat surface to put the hard drive and secure it any way you wish, velcro, strap, zip tie, whatever and you saved $100. You just need this cable/adapter combo.
