View Full Version : p295_ is driving me nuts

My production has fallen of a LOT the last couple days because my 3.0 P4 and my dual 1.8 G5 have both gotten a case of the p295_ gromac flu. This thing is a beast of a protein, huh?!?

I had planned on passing Dread before the week was over, too...

well, maybe if the 1000 points that I have in-process on two machines gets done some time soon, I can realize my dream....

Yeah. 4 copies of a 230 point Gromac on my two big producers...what exactly are the odds, i wonder...

Well, the odds get even smaller. The guy you are trying to pass also has a couple of those babies, on all of his machines... And they all finish tomorrow :D. Good luck folding! But you are right, my points also seen a dive. Let's see what tomorrows brings me and how much points I get!

I think the odds are pretty good. I have a p295 on each processor of my dual 800. You thought that your machine was slow at cranking them out. :D :D

It seems to be between 1 hour 33 minutes and 1 hour 39 minutes per percent.

It's pretty much been all I've gotten for both processors over the last week and a half. I finish it on one, get a handful of little proteins, and then before my other processor is done with p295, I get it again on number two again.

Luckily it only takes me about two days to get through it...

i got 2 of these as well, takes 1:45 roughly for each step.

I'm folding away at a p219_c21Murea. It's taking about 22 minutes per percent! Eeek! However I did get one of my computers back into folding... and I'll be gone for a week at the end of this month so that's all all 4 of my machines will be doing. So hopefully when I come back I'll see some good progress.

It looks as though I'm going to finish those p295s Wednesday and Thursday morning.

I suppose I should leave UT2004 alone but it's more fun that folding. :)

OT: In honor of Sunday...

So this pirate walks into a bar, and he has a steering wheel hanging from his pants.
The Bartender asks him, "Why do you have a steering wheel hanging off your pants?"
the pirate says, "AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... it's driving me nuts"

:D

BTW, it's only 20 points that you are ahead, and the day isn't over... watch the stats in another hour.... :D
BTW 2: check the stats, you are still behind me! http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446

p267_chcl3 is even longer... close to 2.5 hours/1% on a 1.5GHz PBook G4

Poor guy...

You knew this day would come. Didn't think you'd go into denial...

I know a guy who knows a guy who might be able to help you out.

It's the sign of a professional that they want you to do more of them. ;)

I think my machine is too slow since they didn't give me any more. :D

yeah, the p295_ is a beast. that is about all i have gotten since coming back online after a break for the summer. at least i am on a DP and the two processes are kinda sprawled, so at least i finish one like every day.

Well I never thought I'd say this, but I don't wanna be a professional if that's the case! :p They just threw another one at me too. Bah...

Oh, you people wanting instant gratification. The points are good. If the microwave oven had never been invented and fast food wasn't available, you'd have to wait for other things too. :p

I got one of these 230 point proteins twice now. (p_112) My DP2.5 rips through them. I love this protein (and this computer). :D

I got one of those too and I'm glad that the G3 got it instead of the G4. 30 minutes per frame is slow enough. :D

and once again, got another 295, this one is running on v5, now it takes an hour longer (2:55 per percent)... doesn't seem like v5 has the altivec boost.

The version 5 client has little to do with the speed of the core, which hasn't changed, it only calls it with various parameters.

By the way, that p112 I had, shows up in Stanford's records as a p1125.

i was kind of curious about that as well, i thought the difference was odd.
after i restarted last night.. woke up this morning, and it was at 2:05/percent...

Obviously, some background processes must have been working. It's terrible to use your computer for something other than folding. ;)

Well, I noticed at work that my windows pc is getting slower folding big WU's such as tinkers. Normally it takes about three days for a 400 step tinker, now it was taking a day longer. And I didn't do much anything more on that pc then normal. And let the pc work all night with nothing else to do.
