I've had mine since mid-November, without a minute's complaint. I was used to a G4 Duallie with the 23 inch Apple Cinema Display. so I already knew about the wonders of a big screen.

I hope you got the extra RAM from Apple. It was cheap, considering. Mine benches around 8530 in 32 bit.

Mine arrived in germany yesterday, will probably arrive on monday. I'm just setting up Plex on my Mac mini so i can re use it in the living room as HTPC.

Mrs doesn't give a hoot (and still thinks its to big).
Mrs doesn't know and it's none of her business anyway. She will see it when it's on my desk. :)

the 27 looks big in the stores but at home it looks normal. The 21 looked a little small to me, might be perfect for a student or would somehow love to have one on a stand or arm near my sofa and I could use it instead of my MBP.

I have faith, if its bad I'll just get it swapped out.

I have seen 3 in action at mates houses and one of them has the yellow tint on the screen but its hardly noticeable.

I wondered how it would look at home as well. I have a 20 inch that looked tiny in the store but big at home, funny how that works!

I would think its the opposite. The 27" iMacs looks small at the store but HUGE at home.

That's right. And the resolution draws you closer to the screen than with the 24" Cinema Display. I've used both and I have to say the 24" I got rid of was a far more comfortable viewing experience for me. Can't recall my eyes getting unduly tired with the 24", but the iMac 27" gives me headaches. I've used larger screens (the older Cinema Displays) and they never gave me a sense of strain either.
I'm talking of working close-up here, with text for example, not sitting back enjoying movies or games from a greater distance. Adjusting font sizes and brightness still doesn't help the iMac screen match the comfort of working with the 24" I had.

Well I have given up going to get a refund on my i7 Im no happy about it, the screen for me was not the "ultimate display". It seems to me that this screen has taken a step back in getting good/true blacks on lcd screens.

Ive been told sony is going to use the technology in these screens in their new tvs Im looking forward to seeing if the backlight issue Ive had is present there.

I started to think it was just me that was being picky but I have seen uniform backight greying the blacks and this last one has a defined shape where the greying stops and blacks are good. so that shows that the screen is capable of showing a good black but alas not fully achieving it.

My 24" has the greying too but not as bad and its 3 years older technology no led back lighting or ips technology in it. the 27" i7 screen was not any better in a side by side test..

I am totally jealous of those that have one they are happy with lets hope the next update brings me joy as yous feel :( I am an apple fan boy and have had a thorough slagging fi my pals over this I really hope the update (whenever it comes) gives a true ultimate display and i kin again hold my head high and say see just a wee blip they fixed it :)

It might not be just the higher ppi count that is causing eye strain. I've read about some people having issues with the LED backlighting. Try turning down the brightness. One nice thing about the 27 is that the brightness controls have much more range the 24" imacs. If you use firefox, i also recommend the no squint plug in and setting it for 110% global.

if she thinks that's too big, show her the 30" Cinema display LOL :P
Now THAT'S big, and yet people use them. Mostly for heavy duty editing, it's not exactly your regular consumer display, but yeah, still pretty nice.

Enjoy your i7 OP :)

At least good. i know due to the lighting process of lcd that the contrast ratio is never as good as say plasma or crt but it can be a lot better than this iMac is...

If the sale of my MacPro desktop goes as planned tomorrow I'll be heading out to the local Apple Store for an iMac i7 and maybe a little extra RAM & Apple Care.

I got the Store Manager in agreement that I can another new one out if I have screen problems in the next 14 days. Beyond that it would be Apple Care process which I assume would be a refurb.

Of course they would have to agree there was indeed a defect.

a big congrats on your perfect delivery =)

how's the physical condition of the imac? keyboard, mouse? do they look indistinguishable from new? free 2TB upgrade?

the reason you got it so fast is probably because all the refurbs are shipped out from San Francisco.... apparently mine was shipped out today and will be here Wednesday

Sold my 2.66 MacPro 2006-2008 and gave up two 21 LCD's and one 24" LCD, and the use four HD's in Raid0. I'm sure the next MacPro's will surpass my iMac i7, but I think I've got a system that fits into my workspace a lot better. I even got spouse and dog approval when I got my workspace squared away. I did away with the sprawling MacPro, 3 LCD system and I have more space, less noise and less heat. I don't miss the rubber necking between the three LCD screen even though I've got less total screen space. I've find tuned my use of Spaces and I'm not missing my old system.

The i7 sure exceeds the performance of my older MacPro, but that is to be expected.

My only disappointment is the my WD Studio II does not work with Time Machine with the i7. I've seen reports of this issue and I've got an tech. support e-mail in to WD. The August 09 firmware did not fix the issue. So know this before you jump in.

Just thought I'd chip in with regards to the shipping time as I'm in the UK too.

I ordered an i7 at the end of february with 8Gb Ram and Apple care. On the store it was still listed as shipping in 2 weeks but it shipped much faster.

Thurs 25th Feb - Ordered in the afternoon
Sat 27th Feb - Shipped (from Shanghai)
Wed 3rd - Got a UPS tracking number
Thurs 4th - Delivered

Was a week 9 and I've had no problems with it so am very happy.

Oh, and it looked a lot bigger on my desk at home compared to in the store!

If you don't see any yellow, than its a "perfect screen." However, perhaps my eyes are deceiving me, but your photos show some yellowing all throughout the screen. Maybe its the way you took the photo, but I detect some color inconsistency. BUT, if YOU don't see it, thats what is important. Hey, if this is the best monitor after making several returns, than keep it. I doubt you're gonna get a better one than this. Good luck with it.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Those pics show definite yellowing at the bottom to my eyes. But as long as the owner doesn't see it, all's well!

That's *precisely* what Apple is betting on when they re-pack 'em and send them right back out the door to a new customer.

To be honest, when I first saw those pics, I thought the posters was playing a joke on us by showing us a yellow-laden screen and saying its perfect. To me, the yellowing is apparent, but if the owner doesnt see it, than it should be okay.

Oh yeah, Apple is definately reselling the yellow tint returns as refurbished. Totally agree. Obviously, some customers wont be bothered with a little yellowing on their screens. These tend to be casual users who generally wouldn't know any better. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

We should probably stop talking about it. I'd hate for the OP to start questioning a screen he currently is OK with. Haha.

Mine still says not yet shipped. I have had the email telling me it should be delivered on or before the 7th April. I'm that excited I may not sleep on the 6th. Have got to move 1/2 the kitchen around to get the corner desk unit in for it to sit on.

i believe Apple has plants in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Since refurb means putting US labor into it, it can "legally" be labelled as made in USA.

It's on its way. The tracking system seems a bit funny though. The email say's should be with me on the 8th April. When I go to the link and log into my account its says estimated delivery date 12th.

Current delivery status In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule 5th April 2010. The 5th is a bank holiday (national holiday) in the uk.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me ?
