Student loans for an extra degree you don't need or from a school a bit out of your price range? A car which has too much horsepower or renders you too many speeding tickets? A house you bought at the height of the bubble? An item of clothing with a prestigious tag which you find you never wear? The last fast food visit which turned into an ER visit?

Tell us your stories or show us pictures.

Mine is an ER visit from the sour cream nachos after I found out the hard way that I was lactose intolerant so I won't show pictures. Doc said I didn't have food poisoning because I was in too much pain and this type of pain accompanies lactose intolerance not food poisoning...gee thanks, Doc. ;)

I did buy the below pair of ultra weather proof hiking boots for $190. I don't hike anymore and I live in a drought area where it rains very little. Stupid purchase for a nice item with no context in my life. I used to collect guitars and had 60 over the years and that was money truly wasted, and when I reverted to one or two, I actually focused on playing and became a decent guitar player. Almost every collector of guitars either does not play, and if they do, they suck. I would read about rock star collections, and I knew something was off when I found I had more than them. :)

Ecco footwear is awesome! I wear a pair to work every day and won't buy anything else. Definitely worth the price. Sorry you couldn't use them!

My bad purchase was a Nintendo Wii. I bought the sytem, a couple of DDR pads, Rockband and some games. I've used it maybe 5x and need to get it sold. So if you know anyone...lol.

A contract with 3 mobile.

Was meant to be £20/month. Ended up at £45/month for **** awful service, the worst CS I've ever had (I was both lied to and shouted at) and an unparalleled lack of value for money.

I should have just said screw it, stuck with pay as you go and used skype. Cost me a fortune.

I won't touch any sort of fixed term contract with a barge pole now.

There are a stack of CDs I wish I'd never bought, back in the days when I bought what Radio 1 told me to. I didn't enjoy them when they were new, let alone now.

Astro A40 gaming headset for $200. Great headset, nothing to complain about. Only thing is they broke and the wires got sensitive. Told them about it and sent them back for them to replace the parts I needed. Although they didn't replace one wire I needed. And So I just let them collect dust. Now my mom is hassling me so I will get them replaced soon.

I don't mind Ecco as a company so much and I should have bought one of many walking shoes they make. I didn't need to buy this super heavy duty boot which still looks new, and probably would even if I wore them. I got far more use and comfort from a $100 pair of Carolina work boots. It was half the price and just as sturdy and it conformed to my feet rather quickly. The Ecco, being so heavy, takes much longer to break in, and even then I prefer the Carolinas.

Usually when it comes to footwear, I do prefer a European made or designed brand over an American brand, but those Carolinas were just the right combination of toughness and comfort. I had them ten years. When a hundred dollar pair of long term boots can do the job of a two hundred dollar pair, which do you think I will get next time if the need arises?

I agree - when you find a good pair it's hard to go anywhere else. I have a pair of Vasque Sundowners that are 15 years old (I only wear them in the winter when it snows a lot) and I love them. When I worked at Track-n-Trail in my teens I would see guys bring in their own Sundowners to be resoled. Man some of those pairs looks abused!

I have the same printer and the same 'blank sheet' result. I just assumed the jets were so clogged it won't print anymore. It's the last inkjet printer I'll buy. Now I'm on a hunt for a decent multi-function colour laser printer that won't break the bank.

Wow, thanks. The Ecco and Red Wings boots crowd are good for those who want durability and fashion/style/bragging rights that they paid more than $200-$250.

But as a working person in my past who came into rough conditons, the Carolinas did the job without the boutique label. I also had a fancy euro boutique boot, well over $200 dollars made of leather and gortex, and the thing fell apart in no time.

The Eccos I have are probably the most durable boot in the world, but not worth double the price of the Carolinas which are about as durable.

Here's a boot that costs as much as an Ecco and Red Wing combined. If you have nearly $500 dollars to kill, try these. You can find them sometimes online for just over $400 dollars. Their tennis shoes cost $300 dollars. I am sure the boots pictured below me will last forever, but so will paying for them. ;)

There is a certain point where you top out on quality and then start paying for a name. Patek-Phillipe, McLaren, Fender custom shop one of a kind guitars, Mephisto, Jimmy Choo, and Apple come to mind. I can live with Apple though.

I always wait until I find Ecco products on sale. Easy with Zappos, etc.

I didn't know about Zappos then. With deals up to 40% percent off of retail on some stuff, that's amazing. At the time many years ago, I paid $190, before tax, for the Ecco boots, and it was the first time, and last, that I bought a high end boutique shoe/boot.

I learned a lesson which has carried onto the rest of the purchases after that. No more boutique for me. If it works, and it fits, and it lasts, and it's well above average, then that's OK with me. And a bonus is if there is no visible label or the label is very small.

But even though the Ecco label is subdued and small on my boots, people everywhere seem to take notice of them and know they are Eccos. At first it was kind of cool, but now it's annoying and some of the admirers are kind of elitist and think their feet don't stink. ;)

Where I can do with one pair of khakis slightly more expensive than Dockers or a similar pair, I bought two. It was a two for the price of one type of deal, but one pair would have been half price and I should have stayed there.

I pretty much bought one pair of pants too many. It's kind of Tommy Bahama-ish, and it's ok but I don't see myself wearing it that much. Not a good way to spend $94 bucks extra. One pair at that price would have been OK, though expensive but good for job interviews, meeting clients, special occasions.

Ovation CK057
http://www.ovationguitars.com/pics/models/CK057-DPQ_sm.jpg

Learning to play the guitar, I always used extremely cheap guitars, because my father said that getting a new, good guitar is incentive to learn and after using crappy guitars, I will appreciate a good guitar more.

So, I finally learned and got to pick a new guitar. While I was learning, I fell in love with the idea of an Ovation.

I bought this guitar and it was crappity crap. It has forever ruined Ovation guitars for me.

Though, I can't say it's all bad, because i'm a Taylor enthusiast and I can't say that's a bad choice.

Not to play up to the MR crowd too much. But...

My first PC

In the end I think it cost me close to £1500 in upgrades and repairs. The motherboard was faulty, but no PC repair shop we took it to said that. Only figured it out when that was the last thing that hadn't been replaced...

Changed my perspective of PCs...

As a passing note, my dad offered to get me an iMac G3 instead of a PC, as all the components cost the same price, but I declined, because, and if I remember rightly, I said Macs looked funny. Oh how I wish I'd got a G3...

When I was first learning I got an old Fender Tele and I sucked on it and it forever ruined the Tele for me. But as I got better, later using slick Gibsons and Ibanez guitars, I came back to the Tele and now it's my favorite electric guitar.

Give yourself time, get great on electric, and you will find the Ovation can do miracles in a good electric players' hands. Be patient. Ovation rocks, and is meant for rock players, and so does Taylor despite its country-folk appearance.

It was just a poor quality guitar. Insanely high action, the sound quality was pretty bad.. part of that may have been because it's an acoustic/electric, but it was really bad. It warped easily.

I had my father, who is very knowledgeable in guitars, set it up, so that wasn't the case.

I just picked the wrong Ovation, i'm sure.

In general, Ovations have lower and faster actions than wood acoustics, but not in every case. But you can pretty much count on any Ovation being stiffer and higher action than let's say a Jackson or Paul Reed Smith electric guitar.

The greatest sounding acoustic I used was a terribly warped Martin D-35 with impossibly high action. The volume and tone, partially due to action being so high, was so loud and full of rich midrange it sounded like it had a mic on it. The tradeoff is that it slowed down one's ability to be fast on it. :)

Well, I have small, girly hands, so action is pretty important to me. It's hard enough for me to play a barre chord, without adding an additional challenge.

My current guitar is a Taylor 110 and I love it. It's a lower end Taylor, but i'm not playing as much anymore, so I don't need anything too fancy.

I have an American Ash Telecaster, but i'm not really into playing the electric too much.

I actually learned on a Marco Polo guitar. It was a child sized guitar. The strings actually left a rust/dirt-like color on my finger tips when I played, because they were so old. The action was so high, that I could stick my pinky under the strings around the 6th fret. It was pretty much impossible to really get it in tune. But damn did that guitar make me appreciate a good guitar.

Something else I wish I never bought:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0oHSSnTFU9k/ST9b8voFlOI/AAAAAAAAAAc/7wMRJF2OJa0/S760/everyday-infinite-reflections-big.jpg

A friend invited me to one of those stupid Partylite parties, so I felt obligated to buy stuff. I never light all the candles in it; it's a pain in the ass. and it doesn't even look that great. It just sits there and it's another thing I have to dust, but I've found it hard to throw it away. Maybe i'll feel better about giving it to someone.

Taylor's lower end Big Baby actually has a scale about 15/16th of the size of a regular sized dreadnaught. Excellent for those who want something a little smaller. This guitar is effortless to play with smaller hands.

Fender's custom shop, unfortunately expensive, can build you a Telecaster with a 24.75" inch scale neck as opposed to the 25.5" inch, more common, scale neck, and it makes a difference with smaller hands.

Some Fender Jaguars had a 24.0" inch scale neck and is perfect for smaller hands. I found it a tad bit too small though but it sounded amazing. I too have pretty small hands but I found with a 24" inch scale neck I would overshoot chords and notes a lot. It felt more like a 3/4s scale guitar neck rather than a Gibson (24.75") or Fender (25.5") neck. Those 26" and 27" inch baritone scale necks are just plain too big but sound great tuned low B to B, or even low A to A.

I didn't learn though. Damn car had a bad water pump at 35k miles, it was leaking oil, the headlights and radio were tied to the wipers, so my **** only worked if my wiper blades were up, it had an irreparable oil leak since I kept replacing the damn pan where it was leaking and it'd spring a new one a month or so after, and finally blew a head gasket.

Actually I loved this phone. It was small, the buttons were surprisingly easy to use despite looking cramped, the music player was convenient, etc. I just can't find a signal with it in my area, despite never having an issue ever with any other phone with my service provider for 10 years prior.

I think the LG Viewty is the worst phone I ever had. I was tied into an 18 month contract with it too!

Not durable at all, even though it was my first Mac. Now it sits in my closet collecting dust with it's loose hinge, broken topcase, and broken disc drive. POS.

Well, it would at least make a nice server! =)

Why not those battery opp LED candles? I soldered eight of them up to a wall wart for the same candle holder my Aunt has.

Some how I accumulated 5 xbox controllers. The PS3 Controller is soo much better A.K.A Battery life, sensitivity, and overall build quality.

Also not my pic. Haha I have no idea what this person is doing to his controllers. (Maybe trying to make them better?)

It took me a few minutes but...

http://www.videomaker.com/content/images/article/10714/0.jpg
Panasonic VDR-M50PP - Got it for Christmas '04 after mini-DVD camcorders started to gain popularity. It costed over $700 and the mini-DVDs were about $15 each. Then after about 14 months it stopped working and Panasonic wanted $250 just to find out what was wrong with it. If only I had just gotten the Xbox I originally wanted!

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Jvssmzw9L.jpg
Philips HTS3565D Home Theater - I've always been a fan of Philips products, so the HTS3565D Home Theater with upconverting DVD player was a no brainer. At first all was great--but that soon faded. Now, only about a year after buying it, it will not play burned DVDs or rented DVDs, only ones I buy outright (!?). I still use the sound system, but have a Samsung DVD player setting on top of the unit to play my movies. Let's hear it for 3 remotes!

I forgot to mention heat problems the fan is on max while it is on idle, though it may just need new thermal paste or something. It's not that very reliable, it's on it's fourth or fifth hard drive and second logic board.

I'm not able to sell it unfortunately, My father bought it for me when I was 11 (I think) and forbids me from selling or trading it. Hence why I bought my PowerBook G4 with my own money that way I can do with it what I wish.

Why don't you like your Civic? Especially a hybrid model?

Bought it for my ex wife, now she's gone and I'm stuck paying for it. It's slow as hell, and it looks like a car Martha Stewart would buy. I despise it. :)

I knew it. I just saw no reason to buy one when I have an awesome MBP. And, that was the exact same reaction everyone I know had when they saw it. "Why do I need that if I have a MBP?"

Because then i'd have to turn on 6 of those, instead of lighting 6 candles..

Do they come with a remote? That might be more my speed, haha

I'm lazy about the most trivial things. I'll wake up in the morning and run 5 miles, but I will hold in a tinkle til the very last second, because I don't feel like getting up :o

Its an amazing car and so many people would love to have it. I think we are past the days where cars can make you look cool, or badass, or manly or whatever. If anything, that car would make you look cooler than anything else.

Slow? Yeah of course but whats the point? It goes the speed limit and Im sure well over it.

First off, if many people would like to own my car please give them my phone number and tell them to bring cash. Second, I am a car enthusiast. I have owned Porsche 911s, Classic Pontiac GTOs, many 300+ horsepower Honda Civics, Trucks, you name it I've either driven it, crashed it, or rode in it. I love racing and I hate slow cars that look like something grandma takes to get groceries.

How would a Honda Civic Hybrid make a guy look cool? The point is some people like to go fast, like Ricky Bobby. ;)

10$ seems to be iPad apps' average price. 150$ means 15 apps, which is a common number of 3rd party apps

You, my good Sir or Madam, are crazy.

There's been a few games I've mostly just played on launch day and then forgot. I always tell myself "Filipe, you're not a hardcore gamer anymore, just rent the damn things for a seventh of the price" but nope, I keep telling myself to buy them outright.

I've been a bit better with it though, mostly buying cheap games for when I do want something to play. Unreal Tournament 3, Dynasty Warriors Gundam Wing and Lair for 5 bucks each. 15 bucks for 3 fun games, or 60-70 for one? I'll take the 3.

Oh, and I usually regret buying food. It's not needed, adds on weight (not that I'm big or anything), not healthy and a waste when I can bring a much healthier lunch.

Motorola Q.

It was slow, would lockup quite often, missing features that were found in non-smartphones, and had pathetic battery life. Also had the worst camera of any phone I've ever had previously.

Windows Vista. With all it's crashes, slowness and incompatibility with most of my programs, it was the final straw for me after 16 years of using every version of Windows (from 3.1 to Vista; including two years with ME), which led to my defection to the Mac Camp. On the bright side, I only paid $40 for Vista Ultimate from a no-reserve auction at the place I was working at the time.

Another regret as purchasing my Acer Aspire One netbook.

http://www.ubergizmo.com/photos/2009/2/aspire-one-aud150.jpg

There wasn't anything wrong with the computer itself, but it wasn't powerful enough for my needs. Battery life was also very bad, and I found that I actually did need that CD Drive more than I thought too. I thought it would have been sufficient for my needs when I bought it, but soon found it to be too slow to really do anything with it (such as watching movies or videos online). I eventually sold it at a loss too :(

Bose Accoustimass 5 Series II speakers. Bought them 10 years ago and was quite happy with 'em for a long time during which I didn't know any better. About a year ago, I finally replaced them.

Now that I know what real speakers sound like, I could never go back to these.

Which reminds me, that I still need to sell them...

Blackberry Pearl 8220 is a junk. Slow and flimsy hardware... The Blackberry Storm didn't impress me either. I hear the Storm 2 is an improvement over the original.

However, Blackberry Bold 9700 which I currently use has been an absolute delight.

Sorry - hadn't checked up on this thread. I got some speakers from a relatively small German manufacturer. They are moderately large 'bookshelf' speakers, so of course they take up a lot more space than the Bose ones (excluding the Bose 'subwoofer'), especially since I've put them on stands, but I definitely think it's worth it.

I completely agree, I just purchased the Droid Incredible and went back to my old Blackberry because texting sucked.
