I go to many other forums, and one forum in particular uses Animated Smilies, and whenever I go to post a reply, my computer slows down to a CRAWL, and looking at my CPU Meter widget, that im at 100% CPU. its just a bunch of animated smilies... maybe 10 or so? It goes back to normal once the gifs arnt on the screen anymore...
why is this happening, anyway to fix this?

Check the forum preferences. You can probably turn off graphics when viewing.

Try uninstalling Konfabulator.
I use MenuMeters.

No, that's not it. This happens to me too when I go to a particular forum with around 16 different smileys, half of them animated. When I try to reply, I start typing, but there's a delay between my typing and the letters appearing on my screen. Experiencing slowdown while typing isn't fun. :(

Same problem here too. Its a known issue with Safari. I don't know why Apple has not fixed this yet, but Firefox does not seem to suffer from this problem. I believe it has something to do with Safari not being properly multithreaded.

How interesting, lucky this forum doesn't have too many animeted smilies. :p

Of course people can check to see if their browser has a "play once" setting for animations.

I don't think Safari allows for "play animated GIFs only once". But it's a feature that Pithhelmet brings. Use 0.7.2 if you get it, 2.0 really blows the big one. Using Pithhelmet, my iMac 400 flies on the web-- it doesn't have to repeat play GIFs or download ANY ad images...

Well, my first reply was a joke... kind of...
I am aware of the issue you are describing. That happened on my machine, but since 10.3.4, I have had no such issues. I figured the problem was fixed, because I haven't seen it once since then. Not sure what the issue is.

That's a pencil? I thought it was a banana? and i love that laughing smili, :p
Anyways, I have the same problem myself. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes when I'm posting (like right now) and theres animated gifs, the typing slows down big time....really annoying.

I'm using Camino and experience absolutely no slowdown. The problem must be Safari related. At this point, I like Camino a lot more than Safari. Pages load much faster, Camino doesn't slow to a crawl with multiple tabs open, and it uses far less memory than Safari. Check it out here (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/).

Everyone seems to think a banana. They are the uninformed.
That animated gif is a sprite from a game for the Sega CD titled "Wild Woody", where the title character is a pencil, the pictured character.

Well if you say so, but I'm just not seeing a pencil in that. I guess that curve gives it the banana look. :p

When was the last time you saw an 8-bit era sprite that looked exactly like it was supposed to? :p

Yeah, my Safari slowed down when I'm VIEWING the animated gifs. Once they scroll out, the speed returns.
It's alot better than a few versions back though.
