Will the bit rate still stay the same in my iTunes library? I just want to test it out to see how much space I'd save on my iPhone. Can I always just uncheck it and get the higher bit rate songs back on my iPhone? Thanks.

The original song will be unchanged and the new 128 bit song will only be stored on your iPhone. If you do uncheck the option iTunes will resync the originals.

Has anybody noticed that when you select this option, iTunes only leaves like 5MB or free space on your iPhone, as opposed to about 300MB of free space.
This sucks because taking a couple pictures will fill up the free space or trying to download/update apps isn't possible.
FIX THIS APPLE! ALLOW ME TO CONVERT MY MUSIC TOO 128KBPS WHILE LEAVING 300MB OF FREE SPACE ON MY IPHONE!

Just uncheck the songs which are at the higher bitrate, and have iTunes only transfer checked songs. Worked for me for years.
