What to Peecee users use their computers for? I do all of the same things (except gaming) on my Mac, except better. Music/Web/P2P/Photoshop/Photo-keeping/other general Computing. I have never had a super-fast computer, so the use of Quark, Production suite will nevcer have a home on any of my computers.

School.

My pb works wonders as a portable student laptop. I love being able to go an entire day on a battery charge. I also love watching most PC laptop users finding places to plug in everywhere they go. :)

Take notes about activities (Research), to-do lists, addresbook, listen music, save photos, produce our own family videos, do some posters (Depends on the mood), family databases, download patches for PC users :p ... actually it's along list, a lot of things I couldn't do that easy with a PC ... oh! and read rumors ;)

I have a Mac AND a Windows "Peecee" (which is currently being fixed).

I use the Mac for:
- Almost ALL Web surfing
- Playing music
- Programming

I use the PC for:
- Converting music to a format the Mac can play :)
- Running Windows Update :p
- Programming (in the future, since I don't have a development environment installed yet) :o

That's the most productive use I have heard of in this thread or in general. :D
What else can you do with a computer besides watching, downloading, editing, sorting... porn? :p

I do a lot of stuff like email, internet browsing, playing once in a while, writing a journal, using all the nifty apps like stickies, adressbook, ical, iDVD etc.

And I do actually work with this thing too. :D I download porn... oh darn, wrong topic :D
Photoshop, Excel, PP, Word, etc. for college and work. Oh and ichat/iSight to chat with buddies from overseas(not that this is working ;) )

since mine is located in my Photostudio...

I use it for Photoshop
Scanning slides
camera control with my DSLR in the Studio
minor video editing with FCP
mail
itunes (just to copy everything on my iPod...)
internet
word
ftp to one of my clients server...
burn data CD or DVD's for backup or to send to clients...
proofprinting before I send something off to them...

thats about it...

PS: I did receive iLife with this G5 and I did NOT install it since I only use iTunes... I don't use adress book or mail from apple... I don't like it because I can automate much more in entourage (ok its MS...) to filter out if mails are work or private and put them in different folders so when I'm working I see the work related mails first...

You know that you can do all that with the rules in mail too, right?

yes I do... but I like the fact that I can use my calendar in the same progam & synch with my palm device (ok iCal can do that too, I know) and send invitations to PC users who use outlook, as far as I know you cannot do that with iCal...
I don't like to have too much different programs running at the same time I like it combined...

Well I use entourage just because it works well with Hotmail accounts, thats all.. iCal and Mail does everything pretty well plus they work faster than entourage.. I'm expecting alot from the next versions of mail and especially iCal.. I dont know why, but iCal seems to change alot in a positive way in next release of OS (Tiger)

Design educational science software in Flash.
BBedit 8.0 (sweet)
Database on Appleworks/ file maker pro (so right compared with Access)
Worksheets on Appleworks (I teach Advanced level chemistry)
Excel
Word when writing books (due to portability to PCs)
iPhoto (home photos)
play music on iTunes
photoshop
email on Mail
Palm desktop (have a Tungsten T3)

Network with old G3 laptop so sit in garden when it is warm and surf the net. (This is Oxford Englad, UK, so it is too cold now)

All on OS 10.3.5. The G4 is still speedy. Oh, I wait for the day when I upgrade. Of course you always will get something better if you wait another 6 months....

typical student stuff like...

writing papers (textedit - surprisingly good as a word processor)
listening to music
surfing the web
checking email
voicechatting

and stuff for work, like...

graphic design - photoshop, omnigraffle, cenon, potrace, autotrace
web development - taco html edit, yoursql, php, mysql

i really think that the mac os is the best platform for web design. there are so many great free tools for it and almost everything you need comes built in (apache, perl, php). no need to upload to a server to see how your site will function.

typical computer stuff, like email, web, music, a couple games...etc.

But I also use it for College stuff (portability is nice), and for heavy video editing with FCP, Photoshop. and FlashMX. And this PowerBook just purrrrrs along nicely :D . Of course, i would LOVE to have a Dual 2.5 sitting next to me right now, but I really needed a laptop for college...

A shorter list would be, what don't I use it for?

Making pancakes. But I'm working on that. Look for "iPancaker™" in mid '05!

Editing independent digital feature films. The reason I switched was Final Cut Pro 4. It's simply the best.

Also: email (Entourage), web (Safari), graphic design (Photoshop, InDesign), sorting wedding pictures (iPhoto), etc...

That's funny! I too periodically get pangs of almost guilt that most of what I do is for fun and not much is really "productive". Though I'm not sure what exactly I would consider "productive" computer use; maybe writing a book? What would you consider a "more productive" use for your Mac?

What I do is surf (don't have a TV, listen to radio, or subscribe to a newspaper, so all my news comes from the Web), e-mail, keep a journal, write essays/rants, maintain a couple of Web sites, record riffs and tunes with GarageBand, digital photography, listen to iTunes, and a little video editing -- almost identical to what you do. I also use Palm Desktop to keep track of my life details and sync my Palm handheld. Sometimes I do a little Java programming.

Interesting question.
