G5 iMac RAM

Does anyone think its a good idea, to buy an iMac and install cheaper ram by myself? Would it make a difference? What kind would I get?

Yes, buy it yourself, and fit it yourself. Use the Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodel.asp?cat=RAM&mfr=Apple&productline=iMac) memory selector to make sure you get the right stuff at a good price.
