Fear 2

so... i have fear 2 and it is tearing me apart. I have a 2.8ghz mbp with 512mb 9600m and i have played the demo with no problems. i played today and when i get out of the car (very beginning) the landscape had no textures. There were a few visible blocks, but no coloring and all barely rendered. Dust in the air was a bunch of huge blue 2d squares and so on. I quit and started the game again and this time it wouldn't load. it froze at 98%. any ideas? i bought a retail version and installed it through steam the way i should.
