One keyboard two devices?

I have my keyboard paired to my Mac mini and would also like to use the same keyboard for the iPad. The iPad will detect the keyboard when placed in discovery mode but will not actually pair.

Is it possible for the keyboard to be paired to two active devices at one time?

Makes sense

I thought that would be the case. It would be nice to swap devices on the fly.
