is it possible to flas a pc 2600xt to work in mac pro as second card
already have a 4870 and my original nvidia 7300 but think it would be better to have all ati

Because Mac Pros doesn't support CrossFireX or SLI, it doesn't matter is the second card ATI or nVidia and I assume you use the other card just to get multiple displays. I guess it's possible but doubt it will make difference for you

Save yourself from the hassle. You already have 4870 for bit crushing so the other card is used for running the display(s), nothing more really. Doubt you would notice anything

A Mac Pro WILL do CrossfireX (but not SLI), but only:

1) If you're booted into Windows XP/Vista/7

and

2) You're using non-Apple cards (EXCEPT for the Apple 4870, which you must have the very latest Windows drivers for (2010)).

Any proof? The motherboard itself has to support CFX or SLI as well and I think Mac Pro's doesn't (not sure though).

Anyway, in that case, OP would have to buy two PC GPUs and use your method to get it work as you can't put two different cards in CFX, you need two identical. So it's very useless anyway

I've never done it myself, but several people got it working. The info is in the MEGA MEGA 4870 thread somewhere. So not going to look for it. :P

crossfire works fine in mac pro, but the drivers for it are only in Windows.
SLI is not supported, but through use of hacked drivers, a success of using two 7600GT was made a long time ago, Windows of course. Never heard of any hacked drivers for newer cards then that. So it's kind of safe to say that generally, SLI is not supported.

Ahh, okay, thanks for correcting that! You still need cards which are same generation so e.g. 4870 + 2600XT doesn't work but 4870 + 4770 does. It's Windows only anyway so IMO not so useful unless you want to do ultimatesuperultramegaveryhighsettings gaming under Bootcamp
