Pointer and auto open nightmare

Please could anyone help? When the pointer sits for a moment it automatically either opens a menu box or a window. When typing the pointer shows as a vertical line like an I, it can cause problems by constantly interrupting with opening boxes!! Cannot find a way of disabling this and its driving me mad!!

My apologies, found today that the programme that i install months ago for the Magic Mouse that I do not use was causing all the above problems. Now have my beautiful Mac back!
