Hi,

Just revised the look of my site and I'm looking for some opinions on the look of the new revision. It is not yet 'functional' as I haven't finished tweaking it yet or deciding on what method I want to use for displaying my portfolio and such.

Suggestions and comments are welcome, don't worry I have some pretty thick skin.. I can take it.

I think it's great. Very 50's automobile ad retro - the only thing I'd change is the font used for "Drop us a line" - semi cursive text was always more popular in those type of ads.

Course, this is from the surface, on Firefox. Maybe your code sucks, and is broken elsewhere - just my 2p :)

design looks ok. don't know about the bottom of the menu seems a bit unfinished... also a lot of artifacts on the images and you should better compress the images. not sure i can comment on anything else since it isn't functional.

I'm thinking about going with the 50's look and adding the 'comic book' dots to the white bar.. something like that.

Thanks for the input!

Actually, it looks pretty nice. It'd definitely be nice if you did something with the white bar (it's kinda distracting, otherwise) and put something in the big blank space on the front page. Maybe just a big, stylized menu for the site, with some of your other work faded in the background (I'm just brainstorming there, but you get my drift).

I agree with the semi-cursive text suggestion (Marker Felt is such an overused font, it kinda detracts from the rest of the design). The menu on the bottom looks nice, but might feel out of place (especially on pages with a lot of content).

The only thing that really bugs me about the page is that it doesn't fit in my Safari window properly. I get a left/right scrollbar at the bottom, and I really don't like having to deal with those.

Overall, it looks very nice, though.

It looks good, nice and clean and simple - but I'm going to be interested in seeing how well it works when you have it all done.

Good luck,

D

I like it. Try to fix up the unfinished looking stuff on the bottom right though.. just doesn't look right.

What resolution is your monitor at? On my iBook I don't get horizontal scroll bars.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone who has given me feedback so far. I really appreciate your candid reviews and advice. Mac users are the best :D

generally, websites that are intended to look okay on 800x600 monitors should have a width no greater than 780px.

As for the design though, the suggestions already given pretty much explain it. I'm a little skeptical about putting the menubar at the bottom of the page. This is very unconventional and some visitors may not take you seriously.

I designed it to be 800x600, but that was primarily for fitting well on a 1024x768 resolution display.

Thanks for your thoughts :D

I like the front page, but no pic or material in the center? Am I seeing this wrong? The center is just grey. I can't navigate the site, but I like the fonts and the layout so far.

Agree about the white bar. Also, why not make the copyright font at the botom consistent with the theme of the site?

Okay.. I've done a small update.. not sure about the graphic at the start..

Thinking about doing a similar comic style vertically sliced right leaning graphic with multiple examples.. kinda hard to explain..

opinions?

LOVE the title font, but i'm less keen on the rest, or at least the image montage you chose for the centre. Also, I can't read the words (Drop It's a Line?) very clearly
