Hey guys I have files and applications I want to hide from other users that use my powerbook. I am the system adminitrator is there a way to do this as in windows? Please let me know.

Simple. Set up a new user in OS X and don't allow access to your porn, er, apps and files you don't want them to see.

Or you can just use diskutility to create an encrypted, password protected disk image and put your porn in there. :p

A not to ellegant solution would be to put those applications in an seperate folder and deny other users access to that folder. To take it a step further you could make a script that hides and unhides these folders on Log in.

Or, you could do the reverse and make a special account for your "sutff," wink wink nudge nudge.... then just log in when you need to access such content. You could also make it so that on log in, you auto log into your primary account, drawing no suspicion.

well here is the thing I have multiple keylogger and spy programs that I dont want my girl to see. She knows how to use the mac but basic stuff. I cannot create another account because she will think of that.

Are you serious about the relationship? Having secretes isn't always the best way to keep someone's trust, especially if your secrets involved invasion of privacy, sounds kinda creepy.

If that's what you're doing, why do you need to hide the files? Let them KNOW that's what you're doing. That's the first, most important step. If you don't want them using text messaging, then delete those apps from your computer. Don't give your kids permission to install new apps -- do this by setting up a separate account for them.

Nope. You're right. We don't. But in order to help you it'd be good to know what the hell you're trying to achieve. And besides, you got a lot of good answers in here, so chill. ;)

I'm sure many people on here know how to fix this problem but are reluctant to help you to violate people's privacy. If you give an exact example of the situation, which apps you want to block etc. you'd get a response very quickly.
