I was wondering if anyone has been able to run ichat with out having an AIM account - if it is possible to use a yahoo IM account instead? If so can they fill me in on how to change the settings to accomplish this?!
Thanks-

Nope. Not possible. iChat uses AIM as it's authenticator.

iChat is AIM or .Mac accounts only right now. Get the yahoo messanger from http://messenger.yahoo.com/ . You can run iChat in Rendevous and connecting to people that are also on Rendevous near you, and it doesn't require a AIM or .Mac account.

Fire can do all the chats in one program: http://fire.sourceforge.net/

If you want the AV capabilities of iChat sign up for an AOL or a .mac account - they're both free.

Apart from Fire as suggested above, Adium is another cross platform IM client on the Mac that comes highly recommended,
