Right makes right, not might makes right. :) Good guys winning again? That's hard to believe.

If it weren't for Camino, would Firefox exist?

Good. I hope that FireFox comes preloaded on some systems soon. That would be pretty sweet. :)

This is the kind of news I like to hear. 1 million downloads!? I too hope it begins to be available bundled with software on new computers soon. Unfortunately, if you have a windows computer, IE does too (and is set as default).

Firefox is definitely the way to go on the Windows platform. I personally prefer Safari because the UI is more polished. I have already tried the latest version of Firefox and it's really great. Let's hope IE will be history soon. :)

I love firefox, BUT...the latest version (1.0 PR) is the buggiest yet with crashes every couple of days in my experience. The features, however, are getting better and better.

I've always used it in Windows, and just yesterday I have begun using it as my default in OS X. It hasn't crashed on me yet, and I find it must faster and more responsive (switching through tabs etc) that safari.

Yeah, that's the worst part about Firefox. It always works on Windows. And while Firefox is slower to load than Safari, I like the way it handles bookmarks better. I don't have to click on the "open book" icon on the Tabbed Window bar.

Not sure about it being faster than Safari, though. They both seem fast to me.

And remember, this is 1 million downloads in 4 days! That's quite quick.

Just downloaded it - been a while since I've played with Firefox and I'm very very impressed. On the Windows platform this will defiantely be the way to go. For now I'm gong to stick with Safari for most stuff - but the integration of RSS feeds into bookmarks is a very tempting feature...

I've just noticed a bit of a strange thing though on the minimum specs page (it appears in the Firefox world there are a lot of people running OS X on unsupported hardware :) )

Operating Systems

* Mac OS X 10.1.x
* Mac OS X 10.2.x and later

Minimum Hardware

* PowerPC 604e 266 MHz (Recommended: PowerPC G4 667MHz or greater)

lovely idea. I hope M$ execs toss and turn at night worrying about this.

Are you talking about apple systems or any computer (hp, dell, ibm, and all linux os's) ?

Not sure what you mean here. With the customize window, I was able to put a "+" button right nest to the "back" button to add a book mark. Down drops a list of folders with the last folder used as the default. couldn't be easier!

I think the "open book" is just for managing and organizing.

I'm amazed how many people who aren't that into or knowledgeable about computers DO know about Firefox or even use it. I like Safari, but I'm still rooting for Firefox :)

The weird thing is, the PC people I know who use it all seem to just call it "Mozilla." But it's specifically Firefox that they're using.

Maybe we're more specific because we also have Camino :)

It would be nice, especially now that Camino no longer uses its own Gecko branch, if it picked up some of the Firefox features. Ditching the XUL/XPI GUI garbage makes it soooo much more responsive.

Does anyone else have that issue with Firefox where when they use Exposé a mysterious, unclickable, small white window pops up along with all your other windows? It only happens when I use Exposé with Firefox open and it's been like that for every version of Firefox I've ever used. It's not really THAT big ofa deal, but it is just a little bit annoying, as I use Exposé all the time.

Is there a fix for that?

It's part of each Mozilla application that uses XUL. Firefox has it, the Mozilla browser has it, and Thunderbird has it.

Firefox is the default browser on my PB. I love it. Haven't upgraded to 1.0 yet - about to do that now. Got my whole family using Firefox. On Windows, it's clearly #1 IMO. I even have a link to Firefox on my family website front page in case any Windows users are having trouble getting around my site on IE.

My Stepmom called it Godzilla. :rolleyes: I didn't know what the heck she was talking about at first.

I used 0.9.2 briefly. It was very crashy on my system. On earlier verisons i had used, it was a little slow. I decided to wait until version 1 was finished and I started hearing some good reviews. If it's going to crash all the time, I might as well be using IE.

You'd think M$ would update IE so as not to lose marketshare. I know a lot of people who won't be using Longhorn, whenever it comes out. :rolleyes:

It's nice that the word of firefox has spread like a wildfire so soon, I had friends "oh mozilla... I tried it out 3 years ago and didn't like it" (meaning the suite), some people.. but 1.0pr is the best ver I've used yet, the themes/extension panels actually "work" now and the update feature actually works now. no crashes yet atleast

I love FireFox, especially on Windows. On Mac I still use it for pages with lots of content, it seems to handle those better than Safari. The little extra window in Expose is annoying, but the "aquafication" isn't due until after 1.0, but it's nice that it's on the list. The best feature of 1.0PR is the new find/popup notification bars. (I know the popup thing is stolen from IE, but whatever, IE still sucks)

I though I saw that pop up notification before. But I have not really used IE since before SP2 came out

Good. I hope that FireFox comes preloaded on some systems soon. That would be pretty sweet. :)
Hopefully not until it has a version 1.0 release. Preloading beta code of any kind is just rude.

Does anyone know how to import Saffari bookmarks to Firefox?
