iChat help

Hey I am trying to do an audio chat with my friend who is using AIM. He was able to do this with another mac user but not me. I assume it has something to do with my wireless router (a belkin that is not out of the box ready for iChat so says apple). Does any one have any ideas?

You have to make sure your firewall settings will allow for that kind of data transfer.

I know but when I try to open the ports it says that is an invalid port. Also nothing happens when i turn the firewall off.
