I am one of those people who have questioned the purpose of the 3.1.3 iPhone OS. I have jailbroken my iPod, and I am wondering it it is worth it to upgrade to the latest OS version. I am running 3.1.2.

Nope, I think it was nothing more than a JB block of 3.1.2, I have a 2nd gen so it was not an issue for me but if you have one of the current models wait till 4.0.

im curious about this too. my ipod is first gen and it has 1.1.1. and jailbroken. whats new and/or different with the newer updates? it will allow me to get 1.1.5. for free but if its basically the same as 1.1.1. im not interested in updating. im sure the 3.1.3. is way better but is it worth the $? AND...whats the deal with charging us to update!?!?! apple is disappointing me...

Alright guys, no hard feelings.
Anyways, it is not really worth upgrading to 3.1.3 as all it does is fixes an apparent iPhone 3GS battery issue, and to stop jailbreaking.
My two cents.

Well, this is just like 3.1.2, besides what markojug said: the 3gs battery issue + stopping jailbreaks.
If you are on 3.1.2 and like jailbreaks, stay there.

I don't care about JB'ing, so I updated my 3G from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3, thinking there might be some incremental improvements or fixes in the bundled apps like Safari.
Didn't notice any difference, except for getting the "No Content" error right after the update.
If 3.1.2 works, I wouldn't bother.
