View Full Version : Is the clock included in the syncing process?

The internal clock on my 3G runs fast, according to both my radio-controlled clock, and my Mac, which is linked to time servers.

As an owner of an original 1G iPod, which syncs the clock with the Mac's clock every time it is plugged in, I'm disappointed to find that the touch apparently doesn't do the same, even when a sync is performed with iTunes.

Did Apple really add all the other wonderful functionality and omit this one simple feature?

As far as I know, it does. My Touch clock doesn't run fast...

OK, I had some time to play with this, so I did an experiment:

I purposely set the the wrong time on the iPod, then proceeded to do a sync -- and yes, the process does sync the time on the iPod to match that of the computer. That's good.

The bad? The fact that I sync every day or two tells me that the clock on the iPod is wildly inaccurate, gaining tens of seconds per day.

I just looked at my 64GB Touch, which hasn't been synch'ed in 3 days - it's
a minute fast, compared to my iMac.

So this means we need to synch every day if we want reasonably accurate
time on the Touch? Or look at our watches or cell 'phones . . . ;^)

Thats a disappointment. I was over here thinking my iPod is giving me atomic timekeeping whereas my PC can be as much as 5 minutes off. Back to the Casio.

At least your time syncs. I noticed mine being off by a couple minutes and couldn’t fix it. For testing purposes I threw it off by a couple hours, and it’s still not fixing. Lame. Looks like I have to keep an eye on my iPod clock to make sure it stays accurate.

What a technology age we live in. :rolleyes:
