Hello,

Well, for us in the Southern Hemisphere, summer is almost upon us again :D , and this means that my Boat is going to get a lot of use again. With my boat, i like to sit in the serenity of the Royal National Park, and listen to music aboard my boat. My question is; what music do you associate with summer, and what would you recommend. The only music i am against is R&B, which has been eternally banned from my computers and iPod.

Sorry for the long winded question, but it was the best way to get my question across.

Thank you for your help.

I listen to Jack Johnson, like almost every single Aussie teen/twenty-something (not that I'm Aussie). Very chilled out. JJ is good music to sit around to on grass fields, throwing the frisbee around, killing an "arvo". Polyphonic Spree and Bob Marley are as well, obviously. :)

If you want something faster, Broken Social Scene's "You Forgot It In People", and any mellow dance or "electronic music" is okay. Lemon Jelly, Zero 7, etc...

Ween - The Mollusk

You see, there are three things that spur the mollusk from the sand
The waking of all creatures that live on the land
And with just one faint glance, back into the sea...
The mollusk lingers, with its wandering eye

at the beginning of a season, i make a season playlist, and then just drop the current faves into the list. i just started my fall list, so here's what summer '04 turned out to be:

"Nick Drake" - Mogwai
"$29.00" - Tom Waits
"Lord Anthony" - Belle & Sebastian
"Vanessa from Queens" - Stephan Malkmus
"Karma Police" - Radiohead
"Infant Dressing Table" - The Animal Collective
"Grapefruit Moon" - Tom Waits
"Sit Down, Stand Up" - Radiohead
"2 Rights Make 1 Wrong" - Mogwai
"Krusty" - Papa M
"Photobooth" - Death Cab for Cutie
"Billy Liar" - The Decemberists
"Whistlin' Past the Graveyard" -Tom Waits
"California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade" - The Decemberists
"So Says I" - The Shins
"Caring is Creepy" - The Shins
"Wig in a Box" - Polyphonic Spree
"Parker's Band" - Steely Dan
"Quincy's Punk Episode" - Spoon

there's a couple of songs i always associate with summer that didn't make the cut this year...

"Gold Sounds" - Pavement
"Superball" - Helium
"Advice to the Graduate" - Silver Jews
"Sunspots in the House of the Late Scapegoat" - Modest Mouse
"Summertime" - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
"Dry County" - B-52's (held over from childhood)

for the record, my dad lives in pittsburgh, and just upgraded his boat to a nice 31' Bayliner. Spent a couple weekends down there this year chilling out on the three rivers, listening to these same songs over and over. boats are awesome.

Some of those songs are a bit deep though.

I guess it depends on the situation. I was picturing a bunch of guys and girls lying around in the park, but I guess going on a nice drive by yourself is part of the summer for some people as well. :o

I'm going to add The Beach Boys. What other season makes it appropriate to listen to Brian Wilson et al?
