ipod touch data clear and crash, help?

i was clearing the memory on my 1st gen touch to sell it and it died mid load, now when i try to turn it on it goes to the apple screen and then cuts back off? anyone know whats going on or how to fix it?

Battery may be low. Leave it connected for a while to charge then try a restore.
