New Mac User with Software Update Question

Hi. Life long Windows user converting to Mac. Just took delivery of a iMac i5 yesterday. I've been reading lots of posts here and on Apple iMac forum with people having issues with the last updates from Apple, e.g. SMC causing fans to go to high speed and staying there. It has me nervous to apply the all the updates Apple has available for my iMac. Just wanted to know if i should wait awhile or do you think the majority of people updated without problems. Thanks.

If you don't have an issue, why to update? I would wait a day or two and read from here is there any major issues

Thanks for the advice. Just booted my new 27" iMAc i5 and finished the setup process. i did do many of the SW updates but didn't do the SMC. I have a week 14 model and hoping the yellow ting problem does not effect me. Just can't believe how nice it looks and how queit it is. I am looking forward to many hours of learning how to use it. Now i gotta save some money for an Air. :D

If you do find that your fans go on high speed, you can reset your SMC by following the directions in this technote. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US)
