Looks like this guy found two of the development units for the iPod Touch with camera!

I wonder if, since these are no longer in Apple's possession that they've decided to forego the classic iPod Touch/iPhone casing and go with the new one that Gizmodo had...

Definitely interesting, though, it seems to have the "skankphone" software seen on that iPhone prototype that was up on eBay a while back. Perhaps someone could pull the camera units out of these and build two Touches with cameras!

Well, not exactly an iPhone, but still interesting... Remember the cool slick Star Trek PADD interface seen a while back? http://www.gadgetreview.com/2009/03/prototype-iphone-emerges-on-ebay-called-skankphone.html

Looks like you may still be able to snag a version of it; this guy's offering two prototype iPod touches; one which boots that appears to have the "skankphone" software installed.

Heck, these are cool to anyone collecting Apple stuff, and since the auction ends soon, someone might be able to get it before Apple takes it down!

That's pretty interesting, I have never heard of this skankphone before

Must be a knock off because of odd software.

Are you ********* kidding me, that's fake. That sticker that says "Apple Development Team" has the funniest attempt at faking an Apple Logo I've ever seen on it.

I don't know, but looking at the serial number 9C9270066K2:

- Production date is late June/early July 2009
- Last 3 characters of the serial number is 6K2, which is in the serial numbers of production 32GB iPod touch 3Gs

And also the model number A1318 is for the iPod touch 3G.

That really is an iPhone prototype, Some macrumors member actually owned it if some one searches they can find the thread. The iPod is just an knock off.

Here's the thread for the iPhone 2g prototype:

Looks legit to me. Prototype iPhones had a similar OS on them. Someone should buy the touches, crack
em open, and see if they are real.

That or the person who is selling this knows their apple serial numbers.

Why would apple take a 10.00 knockoff down for?

Well, seeing as this is really the only thing I've posted, I guess you have to wonder...

I was looking at iPod Touches on eBay and found it... seemed legit enough.

I guess it could be a knockoff, but this dude obviously wasn't the one who did it; and saying he got it from the flea market (at the bottom) leads me to believe he's not trying to get a lot of money for it

Unless, of course I was the seller. (which I'm not)

Very cool. I think it's interesting how the OS has changed since the original Skankphone.

Because it's not a knock off. That's a real iPhone prototype.

Well, anyone in the California area? Looks like this guy's only offering it via local pick-up.

Maybe it's some sort of sting operation?

(I'm not flying across the U.S. for them.)

...and you're still wrong. What are you getting at? It's just running some dev firmware, nothing official.

Very cool. I think it's interesting how the OS has changed since the original Skankphone.

it's some custom software used to test the hardware... made for hardware engineers and such, so it really has nothing to do with iPhone OS

The item has just been removed. Maybe it is real and Ebay or apple told them to take it off. Or the seller realized it was a fake.

Come on guys it's fake. Just cause it has some serial numbers on it that "reveal" it's an Apple product or the week it was made or something, doesn't mean someone couldn't have done a little research to find out what numbers mean what.
