You need a cool looking logo. It would totally excel the look and give off the sense of a more professional company.

". . . property of their respective owners."

"to advertise^your site here . . ."

I think the button text might look better if you nudge it up a couple pixels.

The title graphic (on indexresep.html) has that "banner ad" look, doesn't look like it's part of the page. Look around on other sites, you'll notice that they use transparent or matching backgrounds.

A little more whitespace or something between the columns might make things more readable. Right now it kind of looks like words words words words words PICTURE! words words words words, a little too big and bold and ouchful to read down the page. Maybe you could play with coloring the product heading text to break things up a little?

I have been working on a Logo but this is all I came up with ( I wasted 3 Hours on this)... http://macsruscomputers.com/themactester034.jpg I made it transparent but, its a really lame logo... I mean MURC (Macs R Us Computers) that seems really bad... Any ideas on that? I'm working on the testing page... I think when I'm done and you all think its good I'll put it up...

Thanks All!!!

Yeah, the MRUC titling isn't good. If anything, it should be MRUS (no one will think of Computing usually).

Try changing the background of the site to something light, not distracting, and welcoming. Getting rid of the stark white will help you create a logo image and improve your visitor's experience.

You might want to center everything, and continue from there. I noticed you're using tables, which is fine, and probably easiest for now.

Good luck.

For what it's worth (probably not much!) this is the quickie stab I took at the page. I like simple.

Take it or leave it, just let me know when it's safe to make it go away :)

Oh, it basically is your HTML, very lightly changed really. Mozilla's composer is great for knocking out that sort of static page quickly. It makes it really easy to see how tags are related, and you can jump back and forth between the source and visual without skipping a beat. It's soooooo much nicer than doing everything by hand.

The CSS (<style> section in the <head>) was added by hand, it just sets a few colors and requests a generic sans-serif face all around. Most of the change in appearance is right in there, that's where the blue <h3> comes from too.

The buttons and "logo" are PS quickies. That font is just Century Gothic, the red and blue are the same #aa0000 and #0000aa used in the CSS. They got done fast because they're cheesy :D

Your new version looks messed up in Firefox on PC.

I would consider spending money on getting a pro web designer to make the site for you, it would be a worthy investment as its likely to increase sales and reputation. Sorry, but its a hard world out there, and you can't skimp when it comes to first impressions.

Have you gotten any legal flak from Toys R' Us? They're pretty aggressive about going after people that use R' Us in their name.

I remember reading about them going after a satirical website pretty heavily with their lawyers, roadkillsrus.com. Don't be surprised if you get a nasty letter that threatens lawsuit down the road.

TRU are actually extremely polite and professional when they have trademark disputes. Roadkills-R-Us' Miles O'Neal chose to be a jackass about it, so they bit back.

If they decide they have a problem with it some day, I'm sure they'll take the polite route and give ample time to come up with another name.

The menu has gotta go. Its dragging the page down.

I suggest putting a horizontal menu using DHTML or something so you can turn it into a basic dropdown menu.

This will allow you to bunch similar sections (such as hardware) into a main section and drop down the subsections.

IE.

Main Menu: Hardware
Sub Menu's in Hardware: Computers, Accessories, Newton

and so forth.

This will allow you to make a larger main page, and shrink down some of that stuff so the main menu is easily accessable at startup without having to scroll.

I think digitard is thinking along the lines of my site (which just deputed this morning): http://www.rendezvouscp.000k2.com/
