You would need to plug the camera that uses the CF memory into the camera connection kit using a USB cable.

Buy a Compact Flash to USB reader and plug thati n the USB adapter that comes with the camera kit

I would just plug the camera in directly and not bother with an USB to CF or SD to CF adapter. I hate that the camera connection kit only cares about SD cards. Pro cameras aren't really using that format.

Transfering directly from the camera kills the battery on both devices. Using a USB reader would only drain the iPad. To me thats worth the cost of a cheap CF reader

There's another thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=904208) going on compatible devices. The consensus seems to be that the CF reader needs to be powered, either on its own or with a powered hub, or you get an error message.

That's just what a few people have found. I've got a generic multi-format card reader (non-powered) that works fine plugged directly into the iPad.

I'd tell you the name/model, but I really don't know. It's just a cheap 'no name' reader.

The lexar professional udma compact flash sd reader works. It can be found on amazon. Great ratings and one of the fastest transfer rates through USB 2.0.

I tested my Targus universal card reader that I bought at Radio Shack and it worked with the USB connector and read my Compact Flash card. The Targus is a pretty cheap solution that also has slots for SD, xD and other cards.

It didn't work, but I got a idotconnect one to work fine. I picked it up from Fry's.
