I know someone does a 7200RPM laptop drive, you'd be best off with that really, faster HDD's give quite a performance boost in laptops by all accounts. Hopefully someone else can remember who makes it...is it Hitachi?
 
If you can wait a bit, there are 100GB drives in production right now. They'll be about $250.

Otherwise, for speed - 60GB 7200 RPM drive
Capacity/Price - 80GB 5400 Toshiba.

Hitachi makes the 60GB 7200, and will be making the 100GB.

If you are looking at OWC for those prices, it's about $209 there.

i would go for nr 4 or nr 2.
Fuijitsu hasn't had the best rep for their drives lately..
4200 drives are much slower than a 5400 drive.

Cache is the buffer in the hard drive, kinda like a smaller version of RAM specific to the device (CPUs have it, too).

They will work fine. Any 2.5" drive should.

The 100GB drive is already being produced and will be used in some PC manufactures Laptops. Hopefully Apple's too (eventually). But supply is going to be tight for awhile, so probably not for a few months. And it will be pretty expensive at first. But they are coming. Eventually.
 
I have found out from personal experience that speed matters. There is a big difference between 4800 and 5400. When I boot Mac os 10 of my 7200 rpm lacie ext. hd, its runs even faster for games and some apps. Speed Matters!
 
Like some else has stated, #2 or #4 are the best. Actually, #4 is better than #2 because of the buffer/cache.

And I don't think you need a laptop with a 7200 rpm HD, as that may kill battery life. The 5400 rpm HD's don't make too much of a difference with battery life, but I'm not sure about 7200rpm, although if you rarely use your laptop on battery power, the 7200 rpm is the best choice because its the fastest.
