IBM to unveil 64-bit PowerPC in October
August 8 - 10:29 EDT__IBM will disclose the details of its upcoming 64-bit PowerPC processor at the Microprocessor Forum on October 15, French-speaking Mac site MacPlus notes. The chip is based on IBM's Power4 design and features a vector processing unit similar to what Motorola employs in its 32-bit PowerPC G4 processor. IBM's new processor could theoretically find its way into Macs when it is complete.
