View Full Version : Replace iBook cd-rom?

Someone contacted me knowing I was a computer savvy person, their couple year old (I dont' know exactly until I go to see it) iBook has a dead cd-rom drive. I've put together many a desktop pc, but I've never touched a mac let alone an iBook.

How hard is this repair to do? Is therea better/cheaper/easier option?

No, As we said in that thread. It's not easy. If you aren't familar with yanking apart a laptop... Don't.

Get an external drive. It'll be easier in the long run.

I just looked at the laptop. She dropped it on its side, and now the cdrom drive will not close (whatever latching mechanism it has must have broken). Neither does it work if you close the drive and hold it in and try and use it. I can't see anything apparently shattered/broken on the tray.

Has anybody else had this problem before?
