I gave up waiting for the 2010 and figured I would get a machine to tide me over until a 2011 release so I bought:

2008 Mac Pro 2.8 8 Core with a 23 inch Cinema Display and a set of Harmon Kardon sound sticks for the princely sum of £1650 which is $2530.

All of them have been hardly used...did I pay a good price?

Should I even be asking that question? I'm pretty happy anyway!

It seems alot of people consider this machine to be one of the finest of the Mac Pro range...

You got a mediocre deal, it could have been had for less or more. Be happy with your machine, it's a great workhorse! ;)

I just want to get motion designing without horrible render times...

I've been using a dual 2.7 G5, gets the job done, but slowly.

I guess the speed bump will be amazing...

It's a good system for what you want to do, so you should be quite happy with it. :D

Shoot, I don't know... it seems like a pretty good deal to me. I sold my 2.8 8-core on ebay for $2600 a couple weeks ago (granted I think i got grossly over paid). so for him to grab one with an ACD for $2500ish? seems pretty competitive price to me.

Kudos on your purchase OP!

Much obliged!

I already have a 23' ACD so now I have matching monitors...

I calculated the price of everything individually and I think I saved myself about £400 ($614), just got to go and pick it up this evening then report back on the joys of a faster mac...

It will be back up on ebay in 2011...

With the display, that seems like a pretty good deal to me.

I bought a 2.8x8 after the 2009 models came out and am still very happy with it.

Do you use it for graphics intensive work?

OP, I think you got a very good deal. I have a 2008 2.8 8-core and it's a brilliant machine. Even though I often use over 500 massive sampled instruments (the Vienna Symphonic Library weighs in at 270 GB!) with multiple effects in Logic, I've yet to hit a wall performance wise. In fact, I've still got miles of upgrades ahead of me, so I don't think I'll need a new machine for a very, very long time. Enjoy your new purchase!

No. A bit of graphics, some audio, some video rendering.
