Ipod touch not recognized in OSX

i just got my first mac (macbook pro 13) and everything is working perfectly except for one thing. when i plug in my ipod touch for the first time, it makes the noise on the ipod and iphoto pops up and starts to import all the pics but it doesnt show up on my desktop or in itunes, i reformated it and everything. any ideas? thanks

Hmmm. Sounds like it may be a connectivity issues. Possibly an issue with the port on the iPod?

ive tried multiple usb ports and cables, but iphoto is recognizing it and its charging so it is connected

why not try starting iTunes first then plugging in the iPod?
