500GB HDD 7200 vs 160G X25-m gen 2

Hi I'm new for Mac
I ordered newest MBP 17" with 500GB 7200rpm option and waiting for get it.
I have own Intel x25-m 160G gen 2 in my old laptop.
Do you recommend to replace HDD with SSD?

I found in forum that x25-m has compatibility issue with MBP.
- Can't use bootcamp to install Windows.
- Longtime for bootup.
- Slowdown with a lot of data.

Are problem on above fixed? or still has problem.🙁

no idea whats wrong with your SSD, but mine certainly is fast as hell in my new MBP. Takes like 15-18 seconds to boot, 1 second to shutdown, applications open within 1 second, and bootcamp should work too (but I never tried that)
 
Intel SSDs are very popular among Mac owners and I haven't heard they have issues, not that I'm the best one to tell that as I don't have MBP nor SSD.

You could do OptbiBay solution to use both, SSD and HD

1. you just cant bootcamp if the ssd is in the superdrive location. when you replace your normal drive it should be fine (workaround.. ssd in hdd location.. then bootcamp install.. after that move ssd& hdd back. that should do the trick)
2. this is a normal (some drives more, some less) ssd behaviour. just leave 10-20% space free on the ssd (hdd's also slow down if full... but not so strong)

I didn't know there were issues installing bootcamp + Windows on an X25-M.

The boot-up and slowdown issues were due to a certain EFI firmware version with a specific chipset. This not only affected the X25-M but some other normal mechanical hard disks too.

Your 17" MBP has a completely different chipset so I *THINK* there should be no problem.
 
I've use the X25-M on Boot Camp; it works.

It's fast—my MacBook Pro reboots in less time than it takes for my Mac Pro to shutdown.

And if anything it was one of the first SSDs that didn't really slowdown like the other SSDs out there.

No where does it list any of the issues you posted.

Anyways, only the 80GB X25-M ever had any issues on a Mac, and that was fixed a while ago.
