Audio output modifier?

As of late I've been swapping between using my Apple at home and PC at friends' houses and this reminded me of the XP days when it had a nifty thing from Realtek which allowed you to change the effects of the audio output. I would love to have this for my computer, so I was wondering if there were similar applications [freeware] for OS X?
