What would you normally never admit to having in your iTunes library, what do you have cunningly labeled up as something else so that your friends don't think any less of you should they stumble upon it?

Me first I suppose...

...oh dear...here we go...

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby! (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=13777521&selectedItemId=13777363)

I've listened to it twice and the only reason I got it was when it was a free iTMS download back in May.

good thread :D :D i've got some winners in here somewhere....

ah yes...

"Rock Shuffle" by Me & the Metards
"Danny's Song" by Anne Murray
"Thuggish Ruggish Bone" by Bone Thugs n' Harmony

then there's "Baby Come Back". i don't know who actually sings it. the artist is listed as "Ass Buggy", but i doubt that's right. You know the song, don't you? "Baby come back! Any kind of fool could see! There was something in everything about you!"

winners all, i tell you.

sorry for the DP...

i've also got a live track of james taylor singing an old blues standard called "steamroller"

while it is embarrassing for me to own the track, i think it's much more embarrassing for mr. taylor, who should have known better than to try to sing the blues with a voice like that.

This probably won't seem to bad to most people, but the most embarassing for me is Britney Spears's "Toxic." People are always surprised when they see it on my iPod or on my computer. It just doesn't fit with the rest of my music. I don't really like the song, although I don't think it's that bad. I just don't want to delete it because then there's no way of getting it back. I paid for it, and I'm keeping it.

The reason why it's on there is because it was for, uh...research. Yeah, that's a good way to put it. My ska band covered it for a battle of the bands, so we needed to have the song to appropriately mock it. Our cover turned out better than I though it would, especially since our singer is a guy. It was quite entertaining.

But yeah, I always find myself explaining to people why it's on my computer.

What can I say, the wife loves show tunes.

Backstreet Boys & Hilary Duff...I leave 'em on there for my 10 year old to listen to. However she does lean towards some Widespread Panic every once in awhile so I'm trying to advance her tastes.

Great idea for a thread. We should all include iTMS links, as yellow has done, when the songs are in the store.

Mine? Amos Moses (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=672073&selectedItemId=671982) by Jerry Reed. Whenever kids visit, I play them this one and we all laugh.

Luckily, I got it with a free Pepsi code.

Edit: Even with a free code, I couldn't stand to get Enter Sandman (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=34548&selectedItemId=34536) by Pat Boone, which I play for friends to show them what I consider to be the worst song in the Music Store. The 30-second sample is enough, thank you.

It is not in my playlist per se, but I bought the CD in the pre-iTunes days.

The original Spice Girls CD. I bought it just after 'wannabe' came out because I thought the song was fun, but then they exploded into what they were and I wanted to burn it but I'm too cheap to toast something I pay for.

It's ripped and on my external drive, but it's not in my iTunes.

I've got the soundtrack to Annie.

And how 'bout "Walking in God's Sunshine" (I'm so happy in the light!) Yes, that's gospel bluegrass, but I doubt you'll find that one on iTunes -- don't have it on this PC, or I'd check.

I've also got Kermit the Frog singing "The Rainbow Connection," but I'm not embarrased about that one.

* Hillary Duff / Jessica Simpson / etc.

* "Sofa Rockers (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=14081123&selectedItemId=14081094)" even though it's a good song and an "Apple" song, has slightly scandalous-looking album art ... I always have to remember to close the album art panel

* "Teenage Dirtbag (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=878186&selectedItemId=1189079)" by Wheatus ... it's a silly song, but I love it :)

New winner!! I'd rather listen to Barney all day than listen to "Wannabe." ;)

I've got Snow.....got to explain that one to some people who thought I was listening to Jamaican music....not my usual cup of tea. Oh, 2 Justin Timberlake songs, 1 John Mayer song (Neon), and 5 Robbie Williams songs. They're good. I like them, except Neon, but its hard for me to explain to my friends who have never heard of 90% of the stuff they see on my iTunes library.

I even get scared to let a friend listen to my iPod in case they discover my Justin Timberlake songs, because they'll laugh and never understand, and I'd have to explain that JT iz just soooo SEXAY! :p

I don't know, I don't really consider any of my tracks embarrasing.
Since I listen to pretty much every style of music that is out there and in my library are almost 700 different artists, I always have to cope with people giving me weird looks. "Ooh you listen to rap?" The next one goes: "Ooh you listen to classical music?" or "Ooh you listen to hard rock?"

I don't really care, every song serves a purpose, if not it's deleted. And I do have Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" too. :D I keep it, because it cracks me up every time I listen to it.

I'll post some of the albums I didn't even bother to put in my iTunes collection because I hate them so bad. I think everything else I own and put on there is good. Alright...
The Jerky Boys Motion Picture soundtrack
MXPX - Move to Bremerton (I always kind of hated them, but when I found out they were a 'christian punk' band that hate blossomed to pure loathing)
Blink 182 - Dude Ranch (god they suck, but this is excusable because I hated them by the time that super sucky, super popular album came out)
Filter - short bus and title of record: filter suck hard.
L7 - Hungry for stink: I listened to a lot of grunge. L7 suck.
Staind - Dysfunction: I can't even remember why I bought this one, but I've got no excuse, its terrible.
Incubus - make yourself: I think that the one - two combo of staind and incubus made me hate music for the better part of 2 years.
Stone Temple Pilots - the first three albums: they're terrible. My excuse is that I was a teenager in the early nineties. What's your excuse modern america?
Lit - whatever that first album was called. won it, listened once. sucks.
korn - don't remember the name. the one with like 10 tracks at the beginning with nothing on them. terrible terrible terrible. words don't describe the plague that is korn.
Hole - live through this. grunge yet again. hole suck.

I guess I should get going to the local used record store and get some cash out of this crap. I've been meaning to but looking at these albums reminds me to actually do it. I'm sure there are a few more somewhere else in this house, but I think that's a sufficient list of poopoo. This is a grim reminder that most grunge and late nineties rock radio pop was pure crap. No wonder Kid A and Go Plastic mesmerized me. Again, these are not on the iTunes collection. I reserve that right for quality recordings, or new recordings that I don't realize are terrible yet.

I was embarrassed to discover yesterday that I bought a tune that I already had on a CD. It was one of those "collection" CDs with songs by multiple artists, and I hadn't played it for a while so I didn't remember what was on it. Now I can claim that my 99 cents was a contributing factor in Apple's good Q4 earnings, but I can't say it was a wise purchase.

Possibly a Europop song from the early 90's by a French toddler named Jordy called "Dur Dur d'etre Bebe!" - which translates as something like "It's tought to be a baby" I heard it which visiting friends in Belgium and it is awful. I only have it to tease my wife with it's crapulance. Do any of Euro members remember this song?

Otherwise, as far as songs I have on there because I kind of like them, are several Debbie Gibson songs from my high school days. I thought she was pretty fine.

My friends also make fun of Army of Lovers "Crucified," but I think that is more of an inside joke.

Dude lighten up.

A) If the New England Patriots song from the 80s isn't an embarassing track I don't know what is. There is a reason they are called 'football players'

B) I don't remember any of my posts stating that you had not right to voice your opinion, they were each an attempt at humor which must have glassed by you quite easily. Since Safety Dance was release in 1981 to 1982 I was probably between the ages of 9 and 10...

Well, the subject of the thread is "most embarrasing" tracks. Here's mine:
Copacabana by Barry Manilow (Geez! Just typing that was painful!)

I feel COMPELLED TO EXPLAIN . . . . My girlfriend has only been in the U.S. four years and her middle name happens to be "Lola". She came to me asking about this song her friend always sings when she sees her, and said she wanted to hear it.

I only hope she realizes what a devoted ***** boyfriend she has!! :D

I have Toxic from Brittney Spears too. I actually like the song though. I don't know why, it is nothing like any other songs I have, but I just love that song.

Check out my band in iTMS (link in my signature) and imagine them playing Toxic, male singer and all. I wish we could have recorded it, but it was too much of a hassle to figure out the copyright and royalties stuff. I must say, the audience always loved it...

I downloaded the song because I saw an infomercial for this band a long time ago at 3am. They were a giant family, dressed in clothes that only Willow would fancy, and were just overall freakish.

I would have to say it is either the Backstreet Boys album or the Spice Girls album. To put it into context, I have 16+ gigs of classic or hard rock (Aerosmith, Van Halen, Metallica) with a few more modern, alt-rock albums thrown in. Yeah, mid-90's pop fits right in there, doesn't it??

Not embarrassed by it, but this is the wierdest tune in my library. I play it when we're driving and pass a lump of roadkill on the highway. Grosses my wife and daughter - which is worth every bit of the 99-sents it cost me to but it.

People laugh at me when they see I have ABBA and Cher in iTunes... I also have Nora Jones, Celine Dion, and a few Spice Girls tracks...

My iTunes library contains all my music, and most of my mother's CDs, so that's why the Nora Jones/Cher stuff is on there (I love ABBA myself). I also find people give me an odd look when they see I have lots of Broadway stuff (Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Mamma Mia!, many others...). Usually, they're kids who don't know "real music" and like the nasty pop/rap crap we get stuck with today. My musically inclined friends who play instruments or are involved with theater respect the "Show Tunes" and oldies, as well as some of the classical stuff I like too.

Oh, "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany is an okay song... I have that one too.

- 9 to 5 - Dolly PartonThat's a song I'd classify as "I like it, but would be too embarrassed to buy it." Arguing with myself: Hey, I like rock, not country! But 9 to 5 has such a catchy melody and those funny lyrics! But what if my friends caught me listening to it?

Other songs in my "too embarrassing to buy" classification:

But I can sorta respect liking the music -- just cuz them two didn't sing it, doesn't really have any bearing on whether or not the music itself is good. IIRC, the actual singers actually tried to release a follow-up album, but it got mired in the publicity surrounding the two frontmen....

With just over 30 days worth of music there have gotta be a couple of tracks in there that I'm sure I'd get laughed at for having. But the single most embarrassing one? :o

Well that'd be The Bible audiobook (New and Old Testament). Some loser came round door-knocking and giving out DVDs (yes, DVDs!) with the entire Bible on them. It's HUGE! The Old Testament goes for just over 49 hours and takes up a little more than 1.7gigs!

It's kinda got me interested so I haven't ditched it yet, I'm trying to broaden my horizons but I doubt it'll convert me from paganism just yet...

What would you normally never admit to having in your iTunes library, what do you have cunningly labeled up as something else so that your friends don't think any less of you should they stumble upon it?

Me first I suppose...

"This Time Around" - Hanson (I'm sorry, but this a good song... I admit that I like it here in the forum, but I'd deny it if you saw me in person)

"Jump" / "Warm it Up" - Kris Kross (Ironic value? Maybe?)

"Pac-Man Fever" - Buckner and Garcia (Again... Irony?)

All 219 Rush songs I have - (One of my favorite two bands, but man do other people hate them....)

All 381 Pearl Jam songs I have - (My other favorite band... This one being embarrassing b/c I *have* that many songs when PJ only has 7 studio albums...

EJBasile

i kinda like the song EJ ;)

its sorta catchy but if you listen what they are actually singing...

We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster

Motion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
He's in a giant clam

Down, down...

Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'

Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Mussels flexin'
Flippers flippin'

Down, down...

Let's rock!

Boys in bikinis
Girls in surfboards
Everybody's rockin'
Everybody's fruggin'

Twistin' round the fire
Havin' fun
Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun

Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter

Here comes a stringray
There goes a manta ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that pirahna
There goes a narwhal
Here comes a bikini whale!

The end part is really wierd. The girls that sing in the background make noises for each animal.

I've been listening to this song for the last 15 minutes because I forgot to turn repeat off.

Duff-Man says...perhaps this might have been better placed in the music forum - I think there is a worst song thread in there somewhere.......but yeah...B-52's - awful stuff, all of it. Jackie Chan by InsideOut. At least that is what it is labelled as. Its been on this and the two computers before - I don't know where it came from or how it got there. I was in college though. And my roommate's brothers did have access to the computer (I was living in his parents' basement - it was a sweet deal with independent access from the street, fully self contained, with a block that seperated us from the rest of the house and pretty good sound proofing). Probably "When I'm sixty-four" by the Beatles. The rest of the album is good though.

It isn't a probelm if the tracks get added in there (after all, when you're rapid fire ripping CD's there's going to be stuff encoded you don't listen to.

The problem is when you find them there and you don't delete them!

wmmk, you complain about mainstream, but you like U2.. they are pretty mainstream. =)

i have lots of bad stuff, like abba, ace of base, swing out sisters, huey lewis.. hey.. i love all kinds of music, and cheezy 80s-early 90s stuff is included.

worst is probably wings "wonderful christmas time" or wings "magneto and titanium man".. oh paul.. why? but i love it secretly.

good point. i listen to their older stuff, and hate most of their popular stuff. I'm mostly into prog such as Yes, Genesis, Rush, Radiohead, Adrian Belew, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, The Mars Volta, KraftWerk, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, ELP, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, Tool, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, and King Crimson. Don't even try to tell me that's mainstream.

Radiohead, while not mainstream, is popular. You're not a rebel. =)
