Here is mine. You can see I'm a car person, and the Aussies out there SHOULD know every one of the classics here!

(Sorry, still no free web hosting)

Edit: The non Australian's won't know the brand of the cars. They are all Ford's, Ford Falcon GT's, Ranging in age from:

Picture 1: 1971
Picture 2: 1996 (25th Anniversary)
Picture 4: Again, 1971, same car, just a better color IMHO

What I would do to make it look better would be to desaturate the background while leaving the flowers the same color. That way you would have yellow flowers on a black and white background. Its pretty simple to do in photoshop but since you don't have it you could try the gimp (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/)
If you want you could send me the source pic and I might have a go at it.

so that the flowers really stick out!

Apple needs to integrate an application á la *F10* (i don't remember the right name) in tiger... Grrrrr

this (http://calnet.sdsu.edu/mc68k/5678.jpg) is my current fav pic of her, altough i've yet to turn it into a desktop

wow that is a good picture.

what is she, only like 19years old right? sometimes she looks in her upper 20s sometimes in her teens. Also, its strange, i don't like every picture she is in, cause of the different styles, but the ones they get right are absolutely breathtaking. You should definitely see lost in translation, not only a great movie, but thats also where i think she is her best looking.

I think the main reason i like her is because she isn't super skinny like a lot of models/actresses out there.

btw, and judging by other desktops you've had i think you might agree, the only other model that compares to her in my opinion is laetitia casta. yowza! Theres a pick of her in a red dress or shirt that is to die for, i'll try and find it.

I for one don't like it when I have icons on my desktop. Because once I start it gets messy pretty fast. And for the HD icons... I can access these with just one click more. I guess I just like things cleaned up and not messy.

When it some to my 'puter, everything has its place and pretty much nothing belongs on the desktop. I can usually access something faster using keyboard shortcuts as opposed to hiding all my apps, finding my stuff on the desktop, and clicking it.

I just prefer a nice clean environment. Now, my boss on the other hand has pretty much every single thing from his computer aliased onto his desktop. Different strokes for different folks i guess.

Well, I'm sure most people moved a lot of icons out of the way to show the desktop pic screenshot. But as for mine, seven icons like in my screenshot is a lot. I only use the Desktop for temporary file storage, and I always make it part of my routine to clean up and store files in proper places at the end of every workday. For one, I don't like a cluttered desktop, and it's nice to be able to start fresh every single day. Plus, on a 12 inch screen, once you start letting the Desktop get filled with icons, it gets crowded really quickly. My friend also has a 12" iBook and since he never bothers to clean, his Desktop now has three layers of icons, making it horribly inefficient. I could probably say that seeing people like that was one of my influences.

This might sound like a stupid question.

How do you guys set the type beside the icons on your desktop to flush left? Also, how do you have the name of the song playing on itunes appear on the desktop like how many of you do? It sort of has a transparency to it.

Thanks.

You just highlight them all, and then under the view pulldown at the top of the screen click on arrange, and then the type, or, clean up selection. They both work.

hey ExoticFish, nice.

i'm not a big fan of Stattoo though, you know there are other free apps out there that can do pretty much the same thing. ;) i hope it doesn't take you as long as it took me to 'set-up' my 15". i think i was at it for about 4 days before i got it all how i wanted it, with my old files back on it and all.

@ Wilson - to get the currently playing iTunes track on your desktop, you've got lots of options. currently i'm using Growl, i like it, it just pops up when the track changes, then hides itself. you could also use Konfabulator in combination with some of the many, many iTunes widgets available.
another very promising app is LanOSD (http://oomz.net/Lanosd/). the interface is looking really nice so far. i'd be using that, except i dont' really know how to get it working to do what i want it to. :p hope that helps you out. :)

to get the type to sit on the right of the icons on your desktop, just go to the Desktop, then go to View Options (cmd+j) and you can select if you want the type under or beside your icons.

Thanks guys for answering my question about those desktop options. I noticed that many you have customized icons, where do you download those themes?

Thanks.

If it's icons you're looking for check out:

IconFactory (http://www.iconfactory.com/)
Pixelgirl Presents (http://pixelgirlpresents.com/)

Here's a link (http://pixelgirlpresents.com/tutorials_06_changeicons.html) explaining how to change your icons.

If you want to change themes you'll have to try something like ShapeShifter (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/shapeshifter). Personally I wouldn't recommend it, for fear of making my system unstable, but lots of people seem to do it, so it can't be all that bad.

cb911
Oct 9, 2004, 07:16 PM
acceber - that's a great pic. :) do you mind sharing the link for that? does it come in at least 1280px wide? ;)

so Flat Eric is in a Bassment Jaxx clip as well? i might have to hunt around for some info on that as well.

for all of your themeing needs, you can always rely on these sites:
http://www.macthemes.net/ - not just themes here, other good stuff as well.
http://www.resexcellence.com/themes/ - lots of themes here, including some not-so-good ones.
and check out the Fun Mac forums: http://funmac.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51 and especially the sub forums for user modded themes. :)

as munkle said, you'll need ShapeShifter for most of those themes, but i think you can use another app to actually change the resources that OS X uses, and with that method you can change the login screen and 'About this Mac' screens as well. but SS is safe, that's all i'd recommend.

okay, if you really want to fill it up...

QuickSilver has a menubar icon, and i think that Growl does as well.

you could also stick all 3 of the MenuMeter icons up there - RAM usage, CPU usage and network traffic.

then you could try MenuMeterClock, puts a little calendar icon with the date in your menubar.

you could dig out all of the menu extras that are already sitting on your Mac as well. i know there's a keychain menubar icon, as well as others that are sitting somewhere on your HD right now. i forget where they are, buried somewhere in a system folder.

i can't remember, did you have the iChat icon up there? you could also get Konfabulator, that has a menubar icon. and WinSwitch (i think it's called that) will put your user picture up in the menubar, used for fast user switching.

that's alot of icons. :D are you really sure you want to fill up your Menubar? :p

I wish I had a car like this but by the time I will be able to afford one there'll be not gasoline driven cars anymore :D

It's missing the x in the link but I found it. Nice beta, nice look. It's beginning to look as slick as ichat. Now if it would only have status messages and voice/video chat...

Only 6 weeks until snowboard season! I hear its supposed to be one of the best seasons in the past 10 years. For those unfamiliar with Mt. Hood, the ski lifts visible are Palmer (on the top) and the Magic Mile (coming out from the trees to the bottom of Palmer) at Timberline. I prefer Mt Hood Meadows myself, but Timberline has some pretty decent runs. Its open almost year-round too and Timberline Lodge is gorgeous.

This is my desktop on my brand spanking new ibook.
Chose something simple for the small screen.
Took it to class this morning, the students were not impressed.

On a side note, yesterday I did a class with a PC from school and it took me five minutes to find the damn projector (in the screen settings), with the ibook the screen was up as soon as I plugged it in. Sweet apple.

Each gold column can hold over eight hundred thousand people: 64 x 64 x 200 floors. The two columns combined hold over 1.6 million people. The stadium can hold 1045440 people. The parking lot has 1100000 spaces. All three are marks of the city Orbex, and you are looking at the river side of it. Welcome to Orbex Stadium.

Thanks! I made it myself. A part from being an art teacher I am also a graphic designer, studied design for 5 years in Paris, and now I am teaching several hours a week.
Glad you liked it, as I said the students were not impressed. Is it me or do I repeat myself…I need to get some sleep. Two jobs at a time is killing me.

No, it was just the fact that I edited the post on my PowerBook, but submitted the post from my Dull that may have caused the problem. Nothing concrete, but Service Pack 2 has done some funky things to web browsing on my computer, and Firefox won't even work, so i am between a rock and a hard place in terms with Web Browsing now!

Feel free to break something here at MacRumors and have Mudbug clean up the mess for you.

I will from now on  !

hey, my bro has SP2 installed. i could try posting on that, then editing on my PB. i might be able to make some work for Mugbug as well. ;) :p

but KC, come to Australia anyway. but make sure you visit sunny Queensland, more fun than NSW. :p

also, i'm doing a sort of "Matrix GUI makeover" in the most ways that i can. so i'll have to post a new screenie soon when i get that done.

uh, no, Sydney has the population and the people, Brisbane is too hot, and the drivers are shocking  ! Have you had rain in Brisvegas? We have had about 2 days of non stop rain, and i have been getting home late recently, so no garage for my car, so i am usually wet on the way to work.

I tried to talk my brother out of installing Xp SP2 on his peecee (amd XP+ 3200, which i configured and built) as i have seen the funky things it does (and did to me here) but he is a wLemming, and used up 200 megs of my d/l limit to get, and now wants to un-install. Maybe i should make my signature, 'whatever you do, don't install XP SP2, it b0rked the OctOBER DESKTOPS 2 thread, page 9' - could work

Ha! Nah, I don't think I'll be going to Australia, even though I'll be waiting years to get the chance to move out of S***hole. how is "S***hole" an official place? i've never heard of that, but i've heard plenty of places being called that...

so, another NSW'er complaining about Brisbane drivers. :p are you talking about QLD drivers in Sydney? because i've seen plenty of tourist NSW (and VIC) drivers up here driving too damn slow. but that's just what tourists do - right? i'm not complaining about that. and both our cities have their fare share of... um, 'older' drivers. that doesn't exactly make for speedy traffic, if you know what i mean. :p but we've just had a rain for the past two days as well. which is good for us, now we might be able to buy some turf and finish the landscaping around the house. finally.

but you've gotta admit - QLD has the best beaches. :D

and back OT...
brap, i'm not sure who Providence is, but i'm sure they appreciate your desktop. :) nice flower.

I came across it by accident while searching for Kabuki makeup styles for Halloween. The little Ball and Chain is doing the Asian thing this year.
