That guy says he "installed" the WD software. Why anyone would actually install manufacturer software for a HD is beyond me.
Are you running it as an external? Or did you swap it into your Mac?
Is it running in Activity Monitor? What about startup items?
If all else fails, just backup important stuff, wipe the drive and be happy 😀
I have no idea. But the *real* problem here is that .mkv-files have been unwatchable since I installed Snow Leopard last August or so, especially so on my secondary monitor, and even more so when in fullscreen. I never had this problem with Leopard.
It does indeed seem like I have this WD Drive Manager. I can't, however, find it when searching with Spotlight.
Wiping the drive won't be an option before end of June, when my finals are over. I was thinking of doing this anyway (I like to format once a year, for speed issues generally). I would then reinstall Snow Leopard, without connecting the WD HDD. If .mkv movies work, I will then connect the HDD; if they stop working, I will reinstall the OS again and buy a new HDD.
For a short-term solution, however, I'd really like to uninstall this Drive Manager, just to see if this changes anything. Anyone know how? Because the dude in the aforementioned thread didn't seem to have a problem with this.
Oh, and yes, it's an external drive.
