Would it be better to spend alot on a video card like the 9800 pro and a single cpu upgrade. Or get a dual cpu and a 9000 pro. Playing games and internet are the most I will do with it. I got about $800 to $1000 to blow on it. Any ideas?

Ohh tough choice, how fast is your QS? If I were you I would get a better video card and more RAM, that helps games more then proc speed.
How much RAM, and how fast is the proc.

If I get a dual it would be 1.2 or 1.3

If it's a single 1.4

1 gig of ram.

Also I have a scsi card in my mac.. what the hell is that for?

I agree. Neither is going to help surfing the web, but a video card upgrade will help in gamming. Ram never hurts. A cpu upgrade probably won't make much of a difference.

Edit:

You probably don't need more ram then. 1 gig is probably more than enough for you.

You can use scsi for harddrives and cd drives. Not much else.

when it comes to most games you want fastest clock period and you want best video card. i have a 1.4 G4 with geforce 3 and it was starting to show its age in newest games. problem is the video card needs to be fed. I had my 1.4 running at 1.5 for awhile. stagarola should be bumping up their chips one of these days so look at what OWC is offering. Do not go dual cpu and slow 9000 card. my 2 cents

You can get a Radeon 9800 PRO and G4/1.4GHZ for $350+$390=$740 + ofcourse shipping and taxes from OWC. That will be within your budget, if you have a 733mhz QS with Geforce 2mx, this will be muuuch faster for gaming.
Be sure to get 1+ GB of ram for optimal performance.
You could probably fin it cheaper, but OWC has good service and I've had good experience with them.

Well, I am going with the 1.467, or whatever it is, G4 upgrade from OWC and the 9800 for my QS. I haven't ordered it yet, due to the fact that I just purchased new PB, not here yet, and don't have any money right now :D
But that is the way I would go and am going. Just my 2 cents.

What speed CPU would you be replacing? I may be interested in buying it if you want to get some money for it. I have a G4 533 Digital Audio. Would I be able to use it in there??

Maybe your old video card too...

panther

I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Panther should have the drivers.

a 9800 would definatly work, you could get a flashed 9800 or flash your own (which you can now do without a pc and 99% of them work as long as you get the right type of card (9800pro 256-bit sapphire or powercolor)

with the money saved you could get a nice dual.
