help with Maya (nothing complicated)

I'm playing around with Maya, and I'm wondering how I combine 2 polygon objects (lets say a sphere and a cone)so they're one shape. I want to be able to tilt them togeather, etc. Also, I was wondering where I could go for Maya tutorials and such. Thanks🙂
 
You should find some good tutorials in the menus, and you can also try the 3D 101 section of Alias's site. You might, for example, pick the Polygons section and view the booleans: union movie.
