App Advice notes (http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/05/tweetie-2-vanishes-app-store-twitter-iphone/) that Tweetie 2 (http://appshopper.com/social-networking/tweetie-2) has disappeared from the App Store, suggesting that a release of the official Twitter iPhone application may be right around the corner.

Twitter last month acquired Tweetie and has been planning to rebrand it as the company's official Twitter application. At the time of its acquisition, the application was updated with an easter egg announcing the forthcoming change, and its App Store description saw the addition of a note regarding its future.Tweetie will soon be Twitter for iPhone - and it will be free! So you might want to hold off on buying Tweetie 2 for now - look for the update soon! With Tweetie 2's disappearance from the App Store, it appears that the change may be coming as soon as later today.

Will it be an update to Tweetie 2 or a separate app?

I'd like to have the option to keep Tweetie and not be bothered with an update badge on the app store icon.

On reading the article it suggests that it'll be rebranded as "Twitter" itself......

In all fairness i was really surprised that there wasn't a "Twitter" app right from the get go..... a little slow from the Twits.... :p

I think it will be an update and re brandished as just Twitter under the icon.

I've been using the iPhone version of Tweetie forever because it has a beautiful interface compared to other Twitter apps.

I'm hoping it's a brand new app w/ iAds. I'll just skip it and keep tweetie2. I've paid for both 1 and 2 and like not having ads (and also feel shafted that I had to pay twice). I'd rather also not have a dumb update badge on my App Store icon.

I was reading the Tweetie guy's blog back when this was announced and I believe I remember him saying it would be.

I hope this doesn't end up like Birdfeed, where it was purchased, rebranded, made free and gutted of most of its features.

That said, I am looking forward to seeing what its like. I think the same developer is working on it, so perhaps it will be a good product, though I fear it will be full of ads if its free.

And to answer an earlier question, yes, it is supposed to include an iPad version. I'm not sure if it will be universal or a separate one, but it will be free regardless.

Wrong (http://groups.google.com/group/twitter-development-talk/browse_thread/thread/3319bde764a9138f).

One more from me. People have been asking for specific details around
Tweetie for Mac and I wanted to make sure we clearly message our plans
as we know it. To be clear, Tweetie for the iPhone and it's developer,
Loren Brichter, were the focus of our acquisition, but as part of the
deal we also got Tweetie for Mac.
Loren had been hard at work on a new version of Tweetie for Mac that
he was going to release soon. Our plan is to still release the new
version and it will continue to be called Tweetie (not renamed to
Twitter). We will also discontinue the paid version.
Hope that's clear. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best, Ryan

It won't matter (http://www.tuaw.com/). You can only use it in its current form until the end of June. Twitter is changing the login process at that time. All other apps will have to be updated at that time, meaning Tweetie 2 will no longer work.

I've been using echofon (I paid $5 for it back when it was Twitterfon), but then they changed the name and F-ed up a bunch of the features. The ratings plummeted from 5 stars to like 2 stars. When the new Twitter app comes out, I'm definitely downloading it to my iPhone and giving it a good test; hoping it's better and I can let my echofon app fade away, and then delete it after a month or two of inactivity.

What was incorrect? This thread existed before your thread, making it old news. As you see it was merged.

Also, your jab at meteorology might be more humorous if I were a forecaster. Since I specialize in computational fluid dynamics and parameterization techniques for the boundary layer, it doesn't quite fit. But hey, it's fun to publicly criticize a scientific field for which one clearly has no actual understanding.

On topic, iTunes still shows the update but won't allow me to download it. Hopefully it will be up soon.

All you need to do is go to the app store on your computer scroll to the bottom and click the circle with your countries flag in it, then navigate to the new zealand store. Then create an account on the new zealand store ensuring you do not put in any payment details (the app is free anyway) then make up an address and the post code is 4 numbers. Then type in twitter in the search and download. Simple as that but remember to change back to your own countries store when you are finished.

The only reason this would piss me off is if I paid for it and later Twitter made it suck like birdhouse. That would be wrong because I paid for the application to work a certain way and would be forced to upgrade to the crappy version. This isn't the case though, I downloaded it and nothing has been stripped like birdhouse.

Yep...just downloaded to my iPad and iPhone while dining on leftovers at lunch.

Not to be greedy...but where is the dang iPad version.

Sticking with Twitterrific until I see the iPad version. Twiterrific is actually pretty nice.

Just installed it on my iPhone, not showing yet on my iPad. Honestly very underwhelming "update". Didn't remember my account info from Tweetie 2. Same blah looking interface.

It showed on my iPad.

Also didn't remember my account info.

Completely agree on the interface.

Want an iPad version...sometime yesterday! :D

So this is not a "universal" app?

Just showed in updates on my iPad. Definitely not universal, and looks bad on iPad, text and graphics badly pixelated on x2.
x1 too much blank screen. Well guess I'm sticking with Twitterific on the iPad.

Looks like they removed multiple account support... I don't have multiple accounts, but I can see some people complaining.

Goto Accounts and Setting by clicking the ... button, then click the + and add other accounts.

Multiple accounts are still allowed. I'm currently logged into two accounts.

For some reason it downloaded for me. In the US here. I checked for updates. Twitter showed up and then I clicked on download all updates and it worked. Then I searched the app store and it's not listed. But been using it. Like the enhancements.

Nope! And I for the most part dispise 2x on my iPad. A few iPhone Apps are "ok"....most stink.

The UI is pretty Nice i thought they would dumb it down and make it like there mobile site like the droid app is but its laid out pretty well i could deffintly use that and ill keep simply tweet for other features and push.

There's really no changes between this and Tweetie. It still shows up as Tweetie when you post on Twitter. :P

There's no difference really besides it being free. The Quote tweet sucks. I might have to downgrade back to tweetie

It seems lists can only be accessed from "..." page, which is cumbersome and they are displayed in ugly @username/listname format. I prefer how TwitBird handles lists.

Also, still no push notification?

How do you retweet on the app? It's not in the same place!

So there really aren't that many noticable differences for the update? I don't know about you guys, but I really don't want to give up the Tweetie app just yet. I think I may hold off on downloading it for a few days.

No no no, it's more like this.

"Hey baby, wanna come over to myspace and twitter my yahoo 'til I google all over your facebook?"

Good Lord, that's hideous. Looks like I'll have to SSH into my iPod and replace it with Tweetie 2's icon.

The new icon IMO is a lot better
