G4 zif upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my Beige G3 to a G4. Do you think a G4/400 will be adequate to run Panther and play DVD’s? (I have an adequate video card and DVD drive, so just the processor is in question) Also, which would be faster: a zif taken from a PCI Power Mac G4 or a NewerTech G4 zif?
