Happy Birthday to Thom Yorke! (10/07) For those of you who do not know, he is the most prominent figure in the band Radiohead.

I am a huge Radiohead fan so I felt the need to start this thread. Any other Radiohead fans out there? Favorite songs, albums, videos, moments?

Albums: 1. OK Computer 2. Kid A 3. The Bends 4. Amnesiac 5. Hail to the Thief

Videos: 1. Karma Police 2. Street Spirit 3. No Surprises 4. Pyramid Song 5. Knives Out

Songs: 1. Let Down 2. Everything In It's Right Place 3. Street Spirit 4. Lucky 5. A Reminder (from the Airbag/How Am I Driving EP)

I've seen them live several times now and their shows are AWESOME! Though I think my favorite moment was when they performed Idioteque and The National Anthem (from Kid A) on SNL.

The greatest band in the world!

Their insistence on selling only complete LPs is the hangup.

The sad thing is they're going to be on the MSN music store first because of that, even though the band themselves are huge Mac fans and had a profile running on Apple's pro site for a while.

Definitely pick up OK Computer. This album will one day go down as one of the greatest of all time. Go for The Bends after that......a great rock 'n' roll guitar album. Quite a few popular rock bands today seem to have grown from what Radiohead did with The Bends in the mid 90's.

They've used PowerBooks on stage plenty of times.
I definitely do not like the fact that they will be on MSN before iTunes. But after listening to them for the past decade I can understand why they want their albums sold together (instead of singles). They make music that grows on you. They seem to take the approach that their albums are kind of like paintings......you need to look at a painting for awhile to really start to see it and appreciate it, and you need to see the whole painting. I doubt the artist would just want you to look at one corner of the painting and form an opinion.

I really liked Kid A, but my favourite song is Karma Police. I don't really like Radiohead too much because I don't like it when you can't even understand what he's saying without giving a good listen. Oh, and his lyrics are so vague that I still don't really understand Karma Police. The only reason I like it is because his voice is clear.

I also liked Idioteque because I saw a Radiohead concert on TV in Canada, and they were playing in France, and Idioteque was amazing, as was Everthing In It's Right Place.

Hail To The Thief wasn't bad.

I got Hail to the thief a week ago, but i haven't listened to it much.

You forgot Pablo honey!

So much energy in this album, so much youth, listening to it makes you 15 again (without the pimples!)

Anyone can play guitar, Stop listening (start shouting) ...

and of course the Teen Angst classic: Creep !

it's in my top 10, in between Lou reed's Transformer and led zep's Presence :)

Pablo Honey is definitely a great album too. It just hasn't aged as well for me as the others. There is so much great Radiohead music that it's hard to listen to it all.

I never understood why this is a problem. Many songs on iTunes are "Album Only", and I'm pretty sure a few albums have only "Album Only" songs. Why can't Radiohead just not sell their songs individually?

Best Album Ever! Maybe? Can't tell which radiohead album is best. Its definitely not thief though. Regardless, A Radiohead album is the best album ever in my book. Saw them live twice, for the Amnesiac and Thief tours, once with Kid Koala and Beta Band (RIP) and once with Malkmus and Jicks. Both shows were amazing, and I was right in front of Thom and Jonny for both. Kick myself hard for missing the Tibetan freedom concert that I was going to go to (1998?). Only live performance I've seen that came close was Oasis quite a while back. Not even Neil Young compares.

Wow....I never thought that I'd ever see this, but I can't believe that someone finds Thom's lyrics vague.....

Have they ever released them on the singles chart? Cos if they did then it's a teensie bit hippocritical ... if they didn't then fair enough to them, their music they can do wat they like.

That's because I can't hear half the stuff he says because he sounds like he's trying to speak without moving his mouth much. It also doesn't seem entirely coherent, as if ever line he says is a separate statement on it's own.

I just don't like it, and I can't figure how bands like Elbow and Coldplay are compared to Radiohead.

I don't know who the monkey Elbow is, but I can see how Coldplay can be compared to Radiohead. Similar style of rock in my opinion.

Haven't heard too many Radiohead songs, Street Spirit is pretty schmawesome.

I'd always considered Coldplay's music as less rock, than whinge. You can't do it; Radiohead have originality and talent on their side. Coldplay are overplayed wannabies (in much the same way as Muse, and Travis - Radiohead's two other greatest... flatterers).

I'm not a huuge Radiohead fan myself, but they don't deserve to be brought down to trash pop level.

I don't understand the Travis and Coldplay comparisons, either (and I won't mention Elbow, who are closer to Radiohead than the other 2), but I'll admit to liking Coldplay quite a bit. And despite that, I couldn't say Coldplay is like Radiohead, and I would say Travis is more like Keane (and vice versa) than Coldplay. Radiohead is definitely different from the rest, but once again, I'll stick by my statement that I don't like them very much. But I'd like to add Fake Plastic Trees on the list of great songs by Radiohead, as I can understand what Thom Yorke is saying there, and the song is great.

Elbow are nothing like radiohead period. They are absolutely amazing, but nothing like radiohead.

I think it was actually named the greatest album of the 90's by more than a couple people, Rolling Stone among them. Which would automatically make it one of the top ten albums of the twentieth century by some rules.

Coldplay are Radiohead descipes. But I think the two bands have diverged into vastly different directions. Coldplay was called "art-rock" years ago, like Radiohead was and still is. But I think Coldplay decided to persue the more lucrative pop market (I'm not going to say they "sold out"). I just think they were tired of being compared (unfavorably) to Radiohead, or always being mentioned as "Radiohead influenced band Coldplay...", "Radiohead deciples Coldplay" or whathaveyou in the media the same way the spouses of famous people get get tired of being known as "[celebrity]'s husband/wife."

Moving to a different genre is a great way to break out of that.
