After the big news from Google last week, Bryan Webster emailed Steve Jobs: "I hope you have some good WWDC announcements to blow [Google] out of the water".

To this, Steve Jobs reportedly replied "You Won't Be Disappointed". While it's always hard to authenticate emails sent to and from 3rd parties, Bryan did post headers as an offering of proof.

Apple is expected to be making new product announcements at the Worldwide Developer's Conference from June 7th-11th. In particular, everyone expects that the next generation iPhone will be introduced at that event. Other rumors have suggested that we may see the iPhone with Verizon this year, though it may not come as early as June.

We've seen a few hardware photos and a few screen shots of OS 4, but I'm sure there is A LOT that we still haven't seen.

If you remember the WWDC when Apple unveiled OS 2.0 and the iPhone 3G, there were "hundreds" of new features. And although the software may be one thing and the hardware may be another, when you put the two together, the sum of the whole will likely unveil some awesome new features that we haven't seen yet. Take video calls for example; it's one thing to see a front facing camera, and another to see a screen shot of a settings menu, but it's a whole different thing when Steve Jobs is on stage actually using it and showing us and saying "it isn't just a rumor - the new iPhone WILL have video chat."

Guess I wouldn't expect any other answer.

("No, Google really caught us flat footed, we don't know how we're going to answer this challenge...")

Promises, promises...

Promises are cheap, especially when there's no punishment for not keeping them. And with every new "sent from my iPhone" mail that's being published I more and more believe that Apple is run by a five-year old megalomanic.

No

'Taking the piss' is a phrase we use in the UK. It means 'yo boy, did that mofo just diss you?!' or in another way 'Google are really pushing their luck, what are you going to do to get them back?'

I don't get why people feel the need to curse at Steve Jobs all the time hahaha. Even in praise, there's no need for that kind of language. If I were the head of a major corporation like that, I would just completely disregard any e-mail like that. If you can't converse without cursing, stick to Facebook messaging.

Or from someone that believes in their product.

I agree wholeheartedly. Steve may curse, (google's mission statement is bullfeces.), but he is the CEO, and deserves a high level of respect. Similarly, I can't stand our president, but you will never hear me addressing him in any way but full respect.

I'm sure Apple's new iPhone is going to rock. But there's a couple big things they're really behind on:

1. Carrier. AT&T sucks, but you knew that.

2. Cloud services. Here's where Apple is really lagging behind Android (and possibly even WebOS/HP). They've had a basic infrastructure for years with Dot Mac/Mobile Me but they've let it languish. Never really fixed it or expanded it (syncing iDisk is still to this day nototiously slow and buggy with frequent and unhelpful "Sync failed, please try again later" messages). They need to make Mobile Me a free, built-in service for all iPhoneOS devices and get their crap together. Additionally, they need to move quickly to over the air syncing and drop the dependence on the iTunes/desktop PC umbilical cord. I understand some of the business reasons they want to hold onto this model, but it feels like a desperate move. Clinging to the past has never served Apple well, and it certainly won't with mobile devices. They have the resources and infrastructure to do cloud services and wireless syncing well, but they need to really commit to it 100%.

Is nobody else thinking this beef between Apple and Google is contrived to keep the Antitrust groups off their backs?

All this scrapping between them seemed to kick off almost overnight as they had spent many years coexisting peacefully. Jobs and Schmidt still meet up in public places. It just doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all...

Hm, so Steve Jobs didn't get into a long and protracted argument with some random fanboy on the internet about "freedom from porn"?

Oh wait, Steve usually replies in very short sentences?

Suck it, Gawker.

(and on a sidenote, I love how the email pic blocks out f*** google)

I think it's important for Americans to remember that the iPhone is an international device and plenty of us are using it on different international carriers with zero problems.

Good to hear but that's some stupid fanboy BS right there. F the Android team? Every iPhone owner should be rooting for the Android team to come out with better and better stuff. Besides apps + 3G, how different is the iPhone now from when it came out 3 years ago? That competition is very necessary.

...and "blow them out the water"?

I mean come on people...seriously?
